We are done with the league stage of Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021 and now, the action moves towards the playoffs. The four teams going to the next stage are Delhi Capitals, Chennai Super Kings, Royal Challengers Bangalore, and Kolkata Knight Riders. All these sides have been impressive this season and it would be interesting to see how the playoff matches pan out.
With cricket being a game of numbers, statisticians were quite occupied in fetching records and milestones during the course of IPL 2021. Following the conclusion of the league stage, former New Zealand all-rounder Scott Styris took to Twitter and highlighted an intriguing stat. Scott, who’s a part of IPL 2021 commentary panel, showcased how his countrymen have been crucial in teams’ success this season.
Apparently, that stat showcased three of the four teams qualified for the playoffs have a New Zealander as their head coach. While CSK have Stephen Fleming in the position, KKR have the services of Brendon McCullum. As far as RCB is concerned, Mike Hesson is the Director of Cricket Operations. The only team reaching the playoffs with a non-Kiwi coach is Delhi Capitals. Australia’s Ricky Ponting mentors the side.
Scott Styris highlights the ‘KEY-WIS to success’ mantra
With Styris being a New Zealander himself, he was pretty proud while sharing the record. “Success in the @IPL is simple. 100% chance of reaching the playoffs if you hire a KIWI Coach,” Styris captioned the post. The comment section got flooded in no time as fans were left astonished after coming across this stat.

Meanwhile, the top four teams must gear up to unleash their best in the playoff race in order to secure a place in the finals. DC and CSK will have an additional chance of qualifying for the playoffs as they finished in the top. On the other hand, RCB and KKR have a stern task at hand as they’ll need to win three matches on the trot to get the glory.
Hence, fans must buckle up to witness some more T20 madness. Coming to the fixtures, CSK and DC will battle it out in Qualifier 1 in Dubai on October 10. A day later, RCB and KKR will lock horns in the Eliminator in Sharjah.
