Delhi Capitals regular skipper and ace batsman Shreyas Iyer has been ruled out of the entire 14th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) as he dislocated his shoulder while playing for India in the first One Day International of the three-match series against England in Pune. With Iyer unavailable for the T20 Extravaganza, DC’s team management showed faith in the young Rishabh Pant as they handed him the responsibility of leading the side.

Though Iyer is away from the field, he has been rooting for Delhi Capitals from home and is also in constant touch with the players and support staff via phone and video calls. Meanwhile, the batsman took a hilarious jibe at DC’s opening batsman Shikhar Dhawan as Delhi locked horns against Rajasthan Royal in their second match of IPL 2021 in Mumbai.

Shikhar didn’t have an ideal outing against RR with the willow as he marched back to the pavilion after scoring just nine runs off 11 balls. However, the Delhi-born redeemed himself by being an active participant on the field in the second innings. Delhi’s bowlers got off to a stunning start as they scalped the five wickets of the opposition within 10 overs. Among the five dismissals, Dhawan completed the catch of three batsmen including the likes of Sanju Samson, Shivam Dube, and Riyan Parag.

After every catch, Dhawan celebrated in his trademark style as he performed a ‘thigh five’. As Dhawan did the celebration as many as three times during the game, many fans were worried that the opening batter will have to undergo thigh surgery after IPL 2021. Shreyas Iyer also took a jibe on the same as he posted a photo of ‘red bruised thighs’ in his Instagram story with the caption, ‘Shikhar Dhawan after this game’.

As far as the game is concerned, DC could score only 147 runs while batting first as Jaydev Unadkat ran through the team’s top-order to pick three crucial wickets. Rishabh Pant emerged as the highest run-getter for his side with a knock of 51 runs off 32 balls. However, Pant’s knock was overshadowed by David Miller who played a match-defining inning of 62 runs off 43 deliveries to take the Royals home.
