IPL 2021: Shreyas Iyer to get entire salary despite missing the whole season
Shreyas Iyer will be eligible for his compensation under the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) Player Insurance policy.
Shreyas Iyer dislocated his right shoulder during the ODI series between India and England. And, the injury was serious enough for the Indian batsman to be ruled out of the 2021 edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL).
Iyer is expected to undergo surgery on 8th April 2021. But then, even though Iyer will not offer his services for the Delhi Capitals (DC) side in the 2021 edition of the IPL, he is expected to get his full salary, and the Delhi Capitals (DC) will have to shell out INR 7 Crore from their purse.
And, Iyer will be eligible for his compensation under the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) Player Insurance policy. This policy, which came into effect in 2011 states that all the centrally contracted players will be compensated if they miss an IPL season due to an injury or accident. Also, a player will be eligible for this scheme if he suffers an injury or accident while on national duty. And, Iyer fits the bill perfectly. Another point to note is, a player will not be eligible to avail compensation under this policy if he is not under a central contract with the BCCI.
Shreyas Iyer has been a vital cog in the Delhi Capitals’ (DC) side
Shreyas Iyer has been an integral part of the Delhi Capitals’ (DC) outfit. He has played 79 matches in the IPL and has played each and every one of them for the Delhi franchise. The right-hander has scored 2200 runs in the IPL and has scored his runs at an average of 31.43.
The 26-year-old was also the second-highest run-scorer for the Delhi Capitals (DC) in the 2020 IPL edition that was held in the United Arab Emirates (UAE). Iyer plundered 519 runs last season and scored his runs at an average of 34.60. Also, the Delhi Capitals reached the summit clash of the 2020 edition of the IPL under the stewardship of Iyer.
Meanwhile, 23-year-old Rishabh Pant has been named as the skipper of the Delhi side for the 2021 edition of the IPL. The Delhi outfit will play their first match of the 14th IPL edition on 10th April 2021 against the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) side. The Delhi outfit will be looking to win its maiden IPL trophy this year.
