IPL 2021: Suryakumar Yadav reveals how he managed to perfect his trademark flick shot

Mumbai Indians batsman Suryakumar Yadav has revealed the secret around his signature flick shot. The batsman has almost perfected the flick shot and plays it with the utmost amount of ease. He is one of the key performers of the Mumbai Indians’ team which is aiming for their third successive IPL titles, having won the 2020 and 2019 seasons. 

On Tuesday, the 30-year-old played a brilliant innings of 56 runs from 36 balls which helped Mumbai Indians win their first match in the IPL 2021. During that knock, he smashed a six which went on the roof of the stands at the MA Chidambaram Stadium. The 99-meter six was smacked off Pat Cummins and Suryakumar played a flick shot to attain that much distance. 

The stylish right-handed batter shuffled slightly towards the off stump and deposited the ball in the air on the leg side. The reaction of total disbelief of his teammate Hardik Pandya perfectly explains how outrageous his shot was.

In a video posted by IPL’s official website, Yadav said, “During my younger days, I used to play a lot of rubber-ball cricket on cemented track and on one side, boundary used to be about 90-95 meters so think that shot has come from there. I’m really enjoying the way I’m going right now and hopefully, continue the same for the team,” Yadav said.

While talking about his last few seasons with the Mumbai Indians, Yadav revealed his plans and explained how he doesn’t like complicating things. “I try to keep things really simple. When it comes to cricket, I don’t complicate things. I know what I’ve been doing in that position in the last two-three years. I just go out there and express myself,” he added.

After starting off their season with a loss against Royal Challengers Bangalore, Mumbai Indians turned around their fortunes midway into the match against Kolkata Knight Riders. KKR needed just 31 runs off the last five overs with five wickets in hand, when Mumbai came back from the jaws of defeat and snatched a win for themselves to get their first points.

Rahul Chahar picked up four wickets while some of the other bowlers bowled tight spells to restrict KKR and help Mumbai to a 10-run win.
