In 2013, three Rajasthan Royals players were arrested for spot-fixing, something which we discussed earlier. Now, in a separate case around the same time, Mumbai Police arrested actor Vindu Dara Singh and Gurunath Meiyappan, who was the Chennai Super Kings Team Principal. He had been seen several times during CSK’s matches.

Gurunath was also the son-in-law of India Cements owner N Srinivasan. India Cements are the principal owner of CSK. The police had also arrested RR’s co-owner Raj Kundra, who was also arrested on similar charges. This led to the formation of the Lodha Committee which was made to decide what will be the implications due to this.

In 2015, they finally ruled not in favour of CSK and RR. The BCCI decided to ban them for the two seasons. As a result, two new franchises were added to the league. Rising Pune Supergiants and Gujarat Lions appeared in 2016 and 2017 IPL before CSK and RR returned for the 2018 season. CSK won their third IPL title on their return to the league.
