The hard-hitting batter from Jammu & Kashmir (J&K) was dropped from the SRH team due to his ordinary performances in the first two matches of this season, where he could manage to score a total of only four runs. However, Samad was one of the retained players by the team management due to his talent and performances in the middle-order in the last two editions.

In the 2020 and 2021 editions of the tournament, Samad contributed 111 runs each at a strike rate of 170.76 and 127.58 respectively. In particular, when SRH struggled to get going with their batting performances in the last edition, Samad helped to revive the team to post a respectable total on the board with his lusty blows as well.

In the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2021/22, Samad was the highest run-scorer for the J&K team with the contribution of 127 runs in five innings. If given an opportunity, Samad will look to prove his critics wrong with his performances.
