IPL 2022: 3 teams that might target Yash Dhull in mega auction
Here are the three teams who would be looking forward to have U19 World Cup-winning skipper Yash Dhull on board at IPL 2022 mega auction
With the IPL 2022 mega auction just five days away, all the players from India and across the globe have already registered their names for the two-day event in Bengaluru. Now, it remains to be seen how many of them would find any takers and who all will go unsold. Among those names, there are many budding cricketers as well and they would be excited to be a part of the marquee tournament for the very first time.
The Indian U-19 World Cup-winning skipper Yash Dhull is on the list as well but, the question is which of those 10 teams would be eager to have him on board this weekend. Dhull had led the India colts outstandingly well from the front in the recently-concluded ICC U19 World Cup 2022 in West Indies as the Boys in Blue won the junior competition for a record fifth time. In fact, the promising batter also mattered when it mattered the most with a match-winning 110 against Australia in the semifinal.
While the future of Indian cricket would be going in with a base price of INR 20 lakhs, the amount could increase if the bidding war getting intense and he could be sold for a much higher price.
Here are the three teams that could aggressively bid for Yash Dhull in IPL 2022 mega auction
1. Kolkata Knight Riders
The Kolkata Knight Riders have nurtured many youngsters in the past few years and in fact, had roped in the 2018 U19 world champions including the likes of Shubman Gill, Shivam Mavi, Kamlesh Nagarkoti, etc during that year’s mega auction. With a keen interest to encourage domestic and uncapped talents, KKR could rope in Yash Dhull.
The franchise has retained West Indies all-rounder Ander Russell, dynamic opener Venkatesh Iyer and a couple of mystery spinners – Sunil Narine and Varun Chakravarthy respectively, having released the rest of their players and would be hoping to start afresh in the upcoming season.
With Gill and Nitish Rana released, the two-time winners could sense an opportunity to have the U19 batter on board and he might bag a huge contract from them and emerge as the team’s next big thing going forward.
2. Royal Challengers Bangalore
The Royal Challengers Bangalore are also keen on giving opportunities to the emerging players and in fact, had roped in one of the modern-day greats Virat Kohli in the inaugural edition of the tournament in 2008. The Delhi batter had led India to an U19 world title triumph in Malaysia that year and now, Dhull has the very same achievement on his resume.
Months ahead of the IPL 2022 mega auction, RCB only retained three key players including Kohli, Mohammed Siraj and Australian all-rounder Glenn Maxwell. In the upcoming edition, the three-time finalists would also be looking forward to ticking all their boxes as they eye a maiden silverware.
With star opener Devdutt Padikkal released, RCB would definitely be looking to strengthen their batting and won’t mind giving chance to Dhull should they get an opportunity to buy him later this week.
3. Sunrisers Hyderabad
The Sunrisers Hyderabad would also be looking to start from scratch during the IPL 2022 mega auction. While Kane Williamson has been retained by the franchise since he was their first-choice player for captaincy, the 2016 champions decided to retain two uncapped players from Jammu and Kashmir – middle-order batter Abdul Samad and pacer Umran Malik.
The Orange Army decided to part ways with their opening duo of David Warner and Jonny Bairstow and also released senior batter Manish Pandey as well as Deepak Hooda. Afghan leggie Rashid Khan also has the ability to make his bat do the talking but, even he was not retained.
As they have decided to invest in two uncapped players just months ahead of the IPL 2022 auction, the team would definitely not hesitate in having the 2022 U19 World Cup-winning captain on board in case they successfully outbid everyone at the auction table.
