IPL 2022: 5 non-retained all-rounders who may bag big deals in mega auction

The 15th edition of the Indian Premier League is set to stage with the addition of two new teams. The auction of this year’s Indian Premier League will be a mega affair, as the teams are to be revamped except for the power to retain a maximum of four core players. The IPL has opened up many opportunities for players all around the world and with the inclusion of two fresh teams, it would benefit even a large number of cricketers. All-rounders in cricket are most valued in this sport and they get this tag only if they excel in both fields. Out of all the IPL auctions so far, all-rounders have bagged the most expensive buys 11 times. This league values all-rounders more than the one-dimensional cricketers and it is evident from the auction stats. Many all-rounders who were released by the teams are in contention for the upcoming mega-auction and some would go for a huge price. Here are five all-rounder who who can bag big deals in mega auction: 5. Sam Curran Sam Curran. (Photo Source: IPL/BCCI) Sam Curran, the young English all-rounder, stepped into this league for the first time in 2019 with a huge salary of Rs 7.20 crore. He played nine matches for Kings XI Punjab and his hat-trick and a half-century made him recognised as an all-rounder. In the 2020’s auction, he was snatched by Chennai Super Kings for a price of Rs 5.5 crore. CSK had an unusual rough patch in 2020, and Curran was the one of the very few shining star of the squad. In a match against Mumbai Indians in 2020, he scored 52 off 47 deliveries which proved his ability to anchor the innings apart from his explosive batting. The 23-year-old all-rounder, in 32 matches in the IPL, has scored 337 runs with a blistering strike rate of 149.77 and has grabbed 32 wickets. He is a bowler who can swing the new ball well, execute accurate yorkers, and can hit the balls out of the ropes with ease. Considering his previous auction prices and his recent performances, he will earn huge in this auction too. 4. Shakib Al Hasan Shakib Al Hasan. His left-arm orthodox bowling and batting services have been valuable for the IPL teams over the years. Shakib debuted for Kolkata Knight Riders in 2011 and he was a crucial member of the eleven in the two times trophy victory of KKR. After seven long years in KKR, he was released by the franchise and was signed by Sunrisers Hyderabad in 2018. In 2021, Shakib returned to his parent team KKR. He has played 71 IPL matches and has hit 793 runs at a strike rate of 124.48. With the ball, he has taken 63 wickets ay an economy of 7.43. He is currently the second-ranked all-rounder in the ICC T20I rankings. 3. Ben Stokes Ben Stokes. (Photo Source: Twitter) One of the most renowned all-rounders in this era of cricket is Ben Stokes. He is a rare breed of an all-rounder who can perform exceptionally well in all three aspects of the game. The English all-rounder entered into this league as the most expensive buy in the auction. After a bidding war, he was bought by the now-defunct Rising Pune Supergiants for a whopping Rs 14.5 crore in 2017. Stokes proved the worth of his price and bagged the MVP award in that season for scoring 316 runs and for his 12 wickets. The 30-year-old player was again the most expensive buy in 2018 auction, when he was sold for Rs 12.5 crore to represent Rajasthan Royals. In 43 IPL matches, he has picked 28 wickets and has scored 920 runs at a strike rate of 134.50. He already has two centuries under his name in the IPL. Stokes without any doubt will be one of the big fishes under the hammer. 2. Liam Livingstone Liam Livingstone. (Photo Source: Twitter) Liam Livingstone is a brilliant multi-faceted cricketer who can bowl off-spin as well leg-spin and is versatile in his batting position too. He debuted for Rajasthan Royals in 2019 and was released in 2020. He was bought by Rajasthan Royals again in the IPL 2021’s auction for his base price. The English star couldn’t create the impact he was known for. He has played just nine IPL matches and has hit 113 runs with a strike rate of 126.96. The 28-year-old player has done a phenomenal job in the T20 world cup this year for England. Despite his batting prowess, he was amazing with his bowling too. The all-rounder could change the complexion of the game in no time. He bats at any position, which gives an added advantage and a bit of cushioning to the teams looking for an all-rounder in this auction. 1. Jason Holder Jason Holder. Although the form of the West Indian all-rounder Jason Holder was a big positive. He got only limited opportunities last season, but he shone in all of them with both bat and the ball. Holder first went unsold in the mini auctions held in 2020. He was then roped in as a replacement for Mitchell Marsh and made a statement for all his critics. The tall pacer picked up 30 wickets in 15 matches in both seasons for SRH and played some crucial cameos with his bat too. The Caribbean player was impressive with the new ball and also in the death overs. He has been released by SRH and would be eagerly waiting to be picked by a good franchise at a better price, having done well in the previous seasons.
