IPL 2022: 5 overseas players who failed to justify their hefty price tag in the tournament
A couple of foreign cricketers earned big pay cheques at the IPL 2022 mega auction.
3. Moeen Ali (INR Rs 8 cr)
The hard-hitting English all-rounder Moeen Ali was retained by Chennai Super Kings (CSK) for a whopping price of INR 8 cr. He was retained in the wake of his brilliant performance for the defending champions in the previous edition. He played a big part in the journey of his side to win the title of IPL 2021, scoring 357 runs and scalping six wickets.
However, Moeen has failed to put up a show in this edition. The veteran all-rounder has only managed to score 86 runs in four outings at an average of 21.50. Besides, he has gone wicketless in the six overs he has bowled over the four games. Moeen’s flat outing in IPL 2022 so far has had a massive impact on the franchise as they witnessed the worst start in IPL’s history, losing the first four games.
Moeen Ali was chosen over the South African veteran Faf du Plessis, who has been an integral part of the CSK in the last couple of seasons. The opener amassed 633 runs and was integral in Chennai lifting their fourth IPL title. Moeen will hope to hit the strides and repay the trust shown by the franchise.
