IPL 2022: 5 Players who can replace Deepak Chahar in CSK if he is ruled out of entire season

Chennai Super Kings (CSK) have been dealt with a huge blow as their premier player Deepak Chahar has been ruled out of the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) season. He was recovering from a quadricep injury sustained while playing for India during the third T20I against West Indies in February. He was ruled out of the subsequent Sri Lanka series as well. However, he was expected to join CSK team during the IPL soon as he was recovering from injury at the NCA. The cricketer had also posted a few videos of him returning to bowling to some extent. But during his rehab, Chahar’s back injuy emerged freshly that put diminished all hopes of his return to IPL this season. The four-time champions had secured his services for a mammoth amount of INR 14 crore in the mega auction but are already suffering without him having already lost four out of five matches. The notion of the Kings relying heavily on experience is reiterated by the fact that they are being led by a highly experienced cricketer who has already retired from the international arena in MS Dhoni. Ishant Sharma is another cricketer who has been a journeyman in Indian cricket for over a decade now. Sharma could be a suitable replacement to Chahar given he has played at the IPL previously and has a good understanding of T20 cricket. In his most recent outing for the Delhi Capitals, the fast bowler showed he can be a valuable option with the ball given his control and seam bowling abilities. Having played for a considerable amount of time with Ishant, Dhoni is well aware of what the bowler can bring to the table which makes him an ideal choice as a last-moment replacement option. 2. The right-arm fast bowler possesses a similar skillset as Deepak Chahar with his ability to swing the new ball. Kulkarni has played for multiple franchises at the IPL thus gaining plenty of experience in the league. In Chahar’s absence, Dhoni can look to count on the Mumbai bowler’s experience to give the team early breakthroughs and bring in his variations in the death too. Kulkarni does not need much guidance and can slot into his role right from the word go without much concern. He has played for Mumbai Indians, Rajasthan Royals and Gujarat Lions before. 3. The fast bowler was a part of the travelling reserves for India’s World Test Championship final against New Zealand as well as for their tour to England last year. Being a left-arm quick bowler, Nagwaswalla can bring a different dimension to CSK’s bowling options. The franchise which previously had Sam Curran as their left-arm fast bowling choice could do well with the young Indian bowler playing a similar kind of role. Nagwaswalla has risen up the domestic ranks rapidly having made his first-class debut for Gujarat in 2018 which further echoes the cricketer’s potential to put in consistent performances on the big stage. 4. He might have fallen a bit off the radar as far as the national team is concerned, but is still one of the most sought-after fast bowlers in the domestic circuit. He was Kerala’s leading wicket-taker at the 2018-19 Vijay Hazare Trophy and also picked up a terrific hat-trick at the 2019 Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy thus showcasing his talent. The 30-year-old is someone who gets good bounce off the surface and could be a perfect foil in the CSK’s bowling set-up given the fact that the tournament is being held in Maharashtra where the pitches offer something for the faster bowlers. He has previously been a part of the squad at Kolkata Knight Riders thus getting a taste of what to expect at the IPL. 5. Akash Singh Akash Singh. Singh with his raw pace can bring some fresh energy into the CSK set-up and run into bowl fast with a nothing to fear attitude. He can be unleashed with the new ball as his novelty factor could work well to the team’s advantage with not many batters in the IPL facing the bowler in the past. MS Dhoni who has been a mentor to many young cricketers over his illustrious playing career could bring out the best in the bowler with his astute understanding of the game. If he does manage to impress, the left-arm fast bowler could also be groomed by the franchise as a long-term option thus further strengthening their future.
