Royal Challengers Bangalore has long been regarded as the Indian Premier League’s perennial underachievers, despite having the most devoted fanbase. The Bengaluru-based franchise will go through a major transition in the mega auctions in IPL 2022. Prior to the second half of the IPL 2021, RCB captain Virat Kohli declared that this would be his final season as captain of the RCB franchise, citing a heavy workload as the reason for his decision.

Furthermore, RCB’s star player AB de Villiers recently retired from all forms of cricket, leaving a significant void in the team. Because the remaining players, including Glenn Maxwell and Yuzvendra Chahal, do not inspire much confidence of captaining the team, RCB may look for a new captain in the upcoming mega auction.

There will be a substantial pool of players released by franchises for the mega auction, as well as a number of players with prior captaincy experience who will be available to teams in the auction.

Here are five players who have the potential to succeed Virat Kohli as RCB’s captain in IPL 2022:

Australia’s star opener David Warner will be available for the new teams in the Mega Auctions. After having an underwhelming IPL 2021, subsequently stripped off from captaincy, and playing XI in SRH, David Warner will return to the IPL for a point to prove. In the recently concluded ICC WT20 in the UAE, he was named Player of the Tournament, capping off a successful World Cup campaign for Australia.

Warner’s captaincy style will undoubtedly complement Virat Kohli’s energy. Both are extremely energetic on the field and have an aggressive captaincy style. Warner, in fact, is more tactically sound than Kohli, and RCB will benefit greatly if these two players combine and play together. Warner’s captaincy records are also outstanding.

He led SRH to an IPL victory over RCB in 2016 and has been very successful in assisting them in reaching the playoffs in the subsequent years. Along with his captaincy abilities, the ground at Chinnaswamy Stadium will be ideal for his batting abilities. A left-handed opener who can be aggressive at all stages of the game is a valuable asset.

He has an effective game against spinners and can bash pacers in the power play. Warner has plundered 5449 runs at a strike-rate of 140 in the IPL. His batting style will certainly complement the likes of Kohli and Maxwell, who take their time in the crease.
