IPL 2022: Anrich Nortje returns to training ahead of Delhi Capitals' next game vs LSG
Nortje has been out of the game since November 2021
Delhi Capitals players and fans rejoice as their key player Anrich Nortje returns to the nets for a practice session ahead of their next game against the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG). DC’s head coach Ricky Ponting, on Sunday, had mentioned that the team is expecting the likes of Nortje and David Warner in their next stint scheduled on April 7, 2022.
Ponting was positive of Nortje making his return and had said that he was just a couple of spells away from getting match ready and making his way back into the team. Nortje hasn’t played a game of cricket since the T20I World Cup that was held last year. He was shelved with a hip and back injury, leading to almost half a year out of practice.
“I think he has to get through another maybe four or five-over spell at 100 percent capacity and then I think if he gets clearance from Cricket South Africa, he should be right to go,” Ponting had said.
After Ponting’s statement, Delhi Capitals shared a picture of Nortje, on their Twitter handle, practising in the nets on Monday. “Anrich Nortje. Training. That’s it. That’s the post”- they captioned the post.
Nortje is likely to play the next game against LSG
Anrich Nortje has been with the Capitals since the 2020 season when the team roped him at his base price of INR 50 lakh. He holds the record for bowling the fastest ball in the history of the Indian Premier League clocking 156.22 kmph. Notably, the top-five fastest deliveries in the year 2020 were all delivered by Nortje only.
Ahead of the start of the IPL 2022, there were talks of Nortje missing out on the whole season owing to his injuries. But now with DC sharing a post of him practising, Ponting’s statement might as well turn true. So far Delhi has played two matches, and they share an equal number of wins and losses. But with the inclusion of players like Nortje, Warner, and Mitchell Marsh, DC’s squad will be even stronger.
