As per the latest developments, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is set to allow 50% attendance for Indian Premier League (IPL) matches from April 5. The first week of the tournament saw a crowd capacity of just 25% in the stadiums. However, with the COVID condition not deteriorating much, more spectators can enjoy the action at the stadiums.

It must be noted that the league-stage games of IPL 2022 are taking place across four venues in Maharashtra – three in Mumbai and one in Pune. The state hasn’t witnessed any major spike in COVID-19 cases lately. Owing to the same, the state government has also lifted all the COVID-19 curbs starting April 1.

BCCI gets green signal from the Government of Maharashtra

As per The Hindu, BCCI has directed the Mumbai Cricket Association and the Maharashtra Cricket Association to make arrangements for 50% crowd capacity from April 5 following a green signal from the Government of Maharashtra. It was also learned that the ticketing partners have also been given specific instructions to go about their business.

This means Rajasthan Royals’ clash against Royal Challengers Bangalore at Wankhede Stadium on April 5 will mark the entrance of more spectators in the stadium. Meanwhile, the ongoing IPL 2022 holds great significance with two new teams – Lucknow Super Giants and Gujarat Titans – coming into the picture.

Hence, 10 teams are participating in an IPL season for the very first time since the 2011 season. The sides have been divided into virtual groups of five teams each. Each side will lock horns twice with the teams in their group and with the side in the same row in the second group. The teams will play once with the remaining sides in the other group.

Meanwhile, the first week of IPL has been nothing but action-packed as some exciting battles have already been witnessed over the 22 yards. The T20 madness is also expected to enhance even further as the tournament progress. With more spectators coming to the venues, players and teams have even bigger reasons to unleash their best show.
