IPL 2022: Country-wise money spent on the players in the mega auction

The Indian Premier League (IPL) really lives up to its name of being the “Premier” league in world cricket. With so many players nominating themselves, it becomes extremely difficult for anyone to make it to the final squad. This is one of the reasons why IPL is one of the toughest leagues in the world. This time as well, we witnessed history as veterans like Suresh Raina, Eoin Morgan, and Dawid Malan went unsold. But, current Indian players like Shreyas Iyer and Deepak Chahar attracted a huge amount of bids. Apart from that Jofra Archer went for nearly INR 8 crores as well. But, which country’s secured the maximum amount of money? Which team provided the best quality of players? Let us have a look at the total money spent on each country’s players: 7. Bangladesh: INR 2 crore Mustafizur Rahman. (Photo Source: Twitter/IPL) For Bangladesh players, it was a mediocre auction in 2022. Even though no one had expected their players to break records, the fans would’ve hoping to see more players from the nation in the auction pool. This time around, only one player from the country was sold, and it is an easy guess for anyone who follows the sport. Mustafizur Rahman was sold for his base price of INR 2 crore. He will be a part of the Delhi Capitals during the 2022 season. It will be interesting to see how he performs under the leadership of Rishabh Pant. Rahman is an excellent death bowler in the format. Adding on, his variations are difficult to pick up for the batsmen. To add more brownie points, he has been in terrific form since the last year. Well, the fans will be hoping that they get to see more of him in the IPL this time. 6. Sri Lanka: INR 14.45 crore Wanindu Hasaranga. As the number one bowler finally landed into the RCB camp, players like Maheesh Theekshana found a home in CSK. Apart from that, Dushmanta Chameera was bought by the Lucknow Super Giants. Wanindu Hasaranga has been dominating world cricket for nearly eight months. He is almost unplayable and is a street-smart cricketer. Hence, the fans will be hoping that he gets more chances this time around. For Theekshana, it was a special occasion as the mystery spinner was bought by CSK for INR 70 lakhs. This was somehow a steal by the franchise. If needed, he can fill in Imran Tahir’s shoes. 5. New Zealand: INR 43.35 crore Jimmy Neesham. In Test cricket, they have won the ICC Test Championship, and in the limited-overs format, they have managed to reach the finals of both the World Cups. Time and time again, they have proved their consistency. As Kane Williamson was retained by SRH, all eyes were on other star players like Jimmy Neesham, and Daryl Mitchell. The all-rounders went to the Rajasthan-based franchise. For Mitchell, it was a bit surprising as he stated that he went to sleep thinking that he will remain unsold. Talking about Trent Boult, he landed a deal with RR as well. It will be interesting to see how the management plans their playing eleven for the Royals. With a plethora of options, they can surely go the distance this time. 4. South Africa: INR 44.30 crore Faf du Plessis. But, as time passed, so did their form. Although Faf is still on the circuit, he no longer plays international cricket. This time, Quinton de Kock went to the Lucknow Supergiants. There, he will be a part of a destructive batting lineup. As KL Rahul is at the other end, the fans will be hoping for a treat to witness in the IPL. For the CSK fans, it was heartbreak as their beloved veteran Faf du Plessis went to the Royal Challengers Bangalore. But, in a different perspective, it will be a treat to watch Faf bat alongside the master Virat Kohli. Adding on, players like Rassie Van der Dussen will be part of different franchises as well. 3. With so many Aussies going under the hammer, few teams went after the likes of David Warner and co. This time, the Australians collectively went for INR 58.90 crores, becoming the third-highest gainers in the mega auction. As David Warner went to Delhi Capitals, it was a perfect homecoming for the southpaw. Now, with Prithvi Shaw in the frame, they form one of the most dangerous opening combinations in the league. It will be interesting to see how both of them approach the innings. Talking about other players, Mitchell Marsh found a home in DC as well. Adding on, proven performers like Matthew Wade were sold as well. But, a few well-known faces like Steven Smith went unsold, which was a bit surprising. 2. England: INR 64.85 crore Jofra Archer. There is no doubt that the brand of cricket they have played since the 2015 World Cup still remains a template for other teams to follow. In the IPL, their players have done exceedingly well. With Johnny Bairstow breaking the INR 5 crore barrier, he has proved that he is one of the biggest assets for the teams. He can attack from the word go and the Kings will surely benefit from his services. Adding on, Liam Livingstone has done a tremendous job in different T20 leagues as well. The fun fact about this year’s auction is that their regular captain went unsold this time. Eoin Morgan found no bidders in the two-day event. However, Alex Hales was sold to the Kolkata Knight Riders. 1. India: INR 485.30 crores Shreyas Iyer. This is not surprising as there is no upper limit of how many Indians can be in the line-up. With Shreyas Iyer being one of the most expensive players, the Indian batsmen have fared well in the auction. Ishan Kishan broke the 15 crore barrier this time as MI decided to go after him at any cost. Adding on, uncapped fast bowler Avesh Khan was sold for INR 10 crores as well. It is pretty much logical that Indians were in high demand for this auction. This is mainly because of the rules that have shaped the tournament. With INR 485.30 crores, they are way ahead of other teams.
