The Gujarat Titans have been impressive with their performances in their debut IPL season, and have seven wins in eight appearances. In their last league fixture against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH), the team scored 22 runs off the last over to secure a thrilling victory. Currently, they are facing the Royal Challenges Bangalore (RCB) in their ninth league match of the season. Former Indian cricketers Deep Dasgupta and Wasim Jaffer shared their views on the GT players and their support staff.

Jaffer reckoned that the team’s support staff comprising Gary Kirsten, Ashish Nehra, and captain Hardik Pandya have a relaxed approach, which is helping the team to prevail in crunch moments. He also said that the team has believed in their abilities to win the games in any situation, and mentioned the brilliance of Rashid Khan and Rahul Tewatia this season.

“I think their support staff – people like Gary Kirsten, Ashish Nehra, and the captain Hardik Pandya for a matter of fact, have a relaxed approach. They have won many close matches, and when some team is going through that phase, they are not out of the game. In the last fixture, Rashid won the game for the team, and Tewatia has won two-three games on his own.

“It’s a very good feeling when you are in such momentum when you feel any one of your players can win you games in any situation,” said Jaffer on Sky247.net presents ‘Not Just Cricket’ Show on CricTracker.

Titans are a duplicate copy of Ashish Nehra: Deep Dasgupta

Dasgupta said that the Titans are following the footsteps of head coach Nehra as they have looked confident and without any pressure even when they have been hammered or have been not scored runs.

“Titans are certainly a duplicate copy of Ashish Nehra. Nehra’s mindset has been that if I have been hammered for 40 runs off four, I will take four wickets in the next match. So, I think the team is playing with the same mindset as well, the team has been tension-free whether they are hit for 50 runs off four or taking four wickets in the same amount of overs.

“But, the way they have won their last two three league matches, you think you are invincible. The feeling is such in the squad, the players have a mindset of winning the game in every crunch situation,” said Dasgupta.
