There has been a small COVID outbreak inside the Delhi Capitals bio-bubble in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL). The entire contingent is being regularly tested by the BCCI after as many as six members of their contingent, including Mitchell Marsh and Tim Seifert, tested positive for the virus. However, in a fresh round of RT-PCR testing done on Thursday (April 21) morning, all members of the contingent (apart from those who were tested positive) have returned negative results.
COVID tests were done quickly as DC are scheduled to play their next game on April 22 against Rajasthan Royals. The game was earlier slated to take place at the MCA Stadium in Pune. But it has been shifted to Wankhede Stadium to avoid any COVID related complexities. DC’s previous game against Punjab Kings was also set to be played in Pune but was shifted to Brabourne Stadium.
“The tests were done on Thursday morning and barring those who are already positive, there is no new case in the Delhi team,” the source close to the developments told Cricbuzz. He also revealed that the players will be made to undergo another fresh round of testing on Friday (April 22) morning.
Patrick Farhat (physiotherapist), Chetan Kumar (sports massage therapist), Mitchell Marsh (player), Dr Abhijit Salvi (team doctor), Akash Mane (social media content team member) and Tim Seifert (player) are the members of DC contingent who have been tested positive for COVID. They are undergoing a 7-day isolation period at the moment.
Punjab Kings contingent to be tested on Friday morning
Meanwhile, it has also been reported that the Punjab Kings contingent will be tested on Friday morning as well having played with the Delhi Capitals on Wednesday (April 20). Their next game is against Chennai Super Kings (CSK) on April 25 at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.
Punjab lost their previous game against the Capitals by nine wickets. They are currently at the seventh position in the points table having lost four out of seven matches so far.
