Punjab bid adieu to the 15th edition with a five-wicket win against SRH in the last league game. This season has brought some heroes on board both with the bat and ball.

Apart from the stellar performances of some players, this season has been like a nightmare for others who were picked by their teams in the mega auction at a good amount. Including some youngsters, there are a couple of big names who couldn&#8217;t deliver as per the expectations of the fans and their franchises as well.

Captain of Senior Indian Team and Mumbai Indians in IPL, Rohit Sharma is known for his classic batting style and his capability to play big innings in any format of the game. He was in a good and sound batting form before IPL 2022. But things went completely south for him both in captaincy for MI and his own batting.

Talking about his captaincy, Rohit lost eight matches in a row which is not a record he wanted to be marked against his name. He shared this record of consecutive defeats with Pakistan captain Babar Azam who lost a similar number of matches during his stint as captain of Karachi Kings in PSL 2022.

Along with captaincy, Rohit also underperformed with the bat in this season, appearing in all 14 innings of the 14 games MI played. Rohit managed to score only 268 runs with a poor batting average of 19.14 without having a fifty or century to his name. Undoubtedly, the best batter in the world in across all formats. Former Indian captain and Indian batting stalwart Virat Kohli is going through a lean patch of his career for the last couple of months. His poor form followed him in the 15th edition of IPL as well.

<a href="https://www.crictracker.com/t20/ipl-indian-premier-league/kkr-kolkata-knight-riders/?page=1">Kolkata Knight Riders</a> retained Varun Chakravarthy last year for INR 4 Cr. Later, this year before the mega auction for IPL 2022, the franchise extended their trust in him and retained him at double amount from previous year shedding INR 8 Cr. But unfortunately, Chakravarthy disappointed the franchise with miserable outings in the IPL 2022.

In the 11 matches he played for KKR, Varun scalped only six wickets with a poor bowling average of 55.33. Varun failed at both picking wickets and containing runs which hurt KKR performances in IPL 2022.

Mohammed Siraj delivered some good performances last year in IPL 2021 and he also had some fine outings in the International circuit as well. <a href="https://www.crictracker.com/ipl-2022-virat-kohlis-old-tweet-for-rohit-sharma-resurfaces-as-mi-help-rcb-reach-playoffs/">Royal Challengers Bangalore</a> retained him before the mega auction of IPL 2022 for the amount of 7.0 Cr. But Siraj couldn&#8217;t repeat his performances from the the last two years and was dropped for RCB&#8217;s last league match.

In the 13 matches he played, Siraj could scalped only 8 wickets with a very miserable bowling average of 55.25. He proved to be expensive as well conceding at an economy rate of 9.82 runs per over. He can be seen struggling to find his line and length through the league stage of this season.

Jaydev Unadkat was released by Rajasthan Royals ahead of IPL 2022 mega auctions which resulted in him going into the auctions for this season. In the mega auction, Unadkat was bought by <a href="https://www.crictracker.com/t20/ipl-indian-premier-league/mi-mumbai-indians/?page=1">Mumbai Indians</a> for INR 1.30 Cr after a bidding war with CSK.

Although, Unadkat didn&#8217;t get much opportunities, he couldn&#8217;t perform well in the matches he played this season. Bowling in five games he featured, Unadkat scalped only six wickets at an average of 31.67 and an economy rate of 9.50.

<a href="https://www.crictracker.com/t20/ipl-indian-premier-league/kkr-kolkata-knight-riders/?page=1">Kolkata Knight Riders</a> retained Varun Chakravarthy last year for INR 4 Cr. Later, this year before the mega auction for IPL 2022, the franchise extended their trust in him and retained him at double amount from previous year shedding INR 8 Cr. But unfortunately, Chakravarthy disappointed the franchise with miserable outings in the IPL 2022.
In the 11 matches he played for KKR, Varun scalped only six wickets with a poor bowling average of 55.33. Varun failed at both picking wickets and containing runs which hurt KKR performances in IPL 2022.
It’s time for him to work on his bowling technique and acquire skills to stay in contention for a place in the squad in the future. Going by his performance this season, KKR might release him before the next auction.

<h3>9. Mohammed Siraj</h3>

Mohammed Siraj delivered some good performances last year in IPL 2021 and he also had some fine outings in the International circuit as well. <a href="https://www.crictracker.com/ipl-2022-virat-kohlis-old-tweet-for-rohit-sharma-resurfaces-as-mi-help-rcb-reach-playoffs/">Royal Challengers Bangalore</a> retained him before the mega auction of IPL 2022 for the amount of 7.0 Cr. But Siraj couldn’t repeat his performances from the the last two years and was dropped for RCB’s last league match.
In the 13 matches he played, Siraj could scalped only 8 wickets with a very miserable bowling average of 55.25. He proved to be expensive as well conceding at an economy rate of 9.82 runs per over. He can be seen struggling to find his line and length through the league stage of this season.
Although Siraj did deliver some good performances for India in international matches before the start of IPL 2022. Unfortunately, he couldn’t continue that form in this season of IPL and failed to scalp important wickets for RCB.

<h3>10. Jaydev Unadkat</h3>

Jaydev Unadkat was released by Rajasthan Royals ahead of IPL 2022 mega auctions which resulted in him going into the auctions for this season. In the mega auction, Unadkat was bought by <a href="https://www.crictracker.com/t20/ipl-indian-premier-league/mi-mumbai-indians/?page=1">Mumbai Indians</a> for INR 1.30 Cr after a bidding war with CSK.
Although, Unadkat didn’t get much opportunities, he couldn’t perform well in the matches he played this season. Bowling in five games he featured, Unadkat scalped only six wickets at an average of 31.67 and an economy rate of 9.50.
Unadkat has been good with the ball in the domestic circuit but he failed to deliver similar performance in IPL and on the grounds of that, it can also be considered that MI might release him for IPL 2023.

<h3>11. Vaibhav Arora</h3>

The young bowler from Punjab got his first call to IPL last year when he was bought by KKR for INR 20 Lakhs but he didn’t get a chance to play in any match. Earlier this year, he was released by KKR before the mega auction of IPL 2022.
After that, Punjab Kings showed belief in him and buying him for good amount of INR 2 Cr after going through a long bidding war with KKR. Although, Arora couldn’t deliver up to the expectations with which <a href="https://www.crictracker.com/twitter-reactions-clinical-pbks-thrash-srh-to-end-campaign-on-a-high/">Punjab</a> bought him. He only scalped 3 wickets in 5 innings of the 5 matches he got to play.
Probably, Arora would be the youngest player to make it to this playing XI. Although, he can be given liberty by the franchise as this was his first IPL season in which he appeared on the field for his team.

The league stage of IPL 2022 has ended with the final fixture played between <a href="https://www.crictracker.com/t20/ipl-indian-premier-league/punjab-kings/?page=1">Punjab Kings</a> and Sunrisers Hyderabad at Mumbai&#8217;s Wankhede Stadium. Punjab bid adieu to the 15th edition with a five-wicket win against SRH in the last league game. This season has brought some heroes on board both with the bat and ball.
Apart from the stellar performances of some players, this season has been like a nightmare for others who were picked by their teams in the mega auction at a good amount. Including some youngsters, there are a couple of big names who couldn&#8217;t deliver as per the expectations of the fans and their franchises as well.
In this analytical piece, we&#8217;ll have a look at the playing XI which will comprise the Indian cricketers who flopped in this season of IPL 2022 and couldn&#8217;t perform up to the mark.
<h3>Here&#8217;s a look at flop Indian XI from the league stage of IPL 2022</h3>
<h3>1. Ajinkya Rahane</h3>

Things are not going well with this Senior Indian batter in either of the formats since the Test series against South Africa earlier this year. Rahane was facing criticism for his poor performance as he is continuously failing to score runs. During the mega auction of IPL 2022, <a href="https://www.crictracker.com/3-players-kkr-likely-to-release-ahead-of-ipl-2023/">Kolkata Knight Riders</a> added him to the team for the price of 1.0 Cr.
KKR gave him a chance to bat at the opening position but Rahane failed to prove himself up to the expectations of the team. After seven matches, management decided to drop him from the playing XI and this inconsistency at the top of the order ended up as a reason for Kolkata&#8217;s poor campaign this year.
Rahane got a chance to bat in all seven innings of the seven matches he played managing to score only 144 runs with a miserable average of 19.00 without having any fifty or century to his name.

<h3>2. Rohit Sharma</h3>

Captain of Senior Indian Team and Mumbai Indians in IPL, Rohit Sharma is known for his classic batting style and his capability to play big innings in any format of the game. He was in a good and sound batting form before IPL 2022. But things went completely south for him both in captaincy for MI and his own batting.
Talking about his captaincy, Rohit lost eight matches in a row which is not a record he wanted to be marked against his name. He shared this record of consecutive defeats with Pakistan captain Babar Azam who lost a similar number of matches during his stint as captain of Karachi Kings in PSL 2022.
Along with captaincy, Rohit also underperformed with the bat in this season, appearing in all 14 innings of the 14 games MI played. Rohit managed to score only 268 runs with a poor batting average of 19.14 without having a fifty or century to his name. The stats are not really like those which suit the batter of Rohit Sharma&#8217;s stature.

<h3>3. Virat Kohli</h3>

Undoubtedly, the best batter in the world in across all formats. Former Indian captain and Indian batting stalwart Virat Kohli is going through a lean patch of his career for the last couple of months. His poor form followed him in the 15th edition of IPL as well.
After quitting the duty of the <a href="https://www.crictracker.com/cricket-teams/india/?page=1">Indian National Team</a>&#8216;s captaincy, there has also been a downfall in his batting. A few ducks and below-average performances are not something a batter would like to see, especially the one who once scored 973 runs in an IPL season.
Having played all 14 games of the league stage, Kohli scored only 309 runs with a batting average of 23.77 managing only 2 half-centuries including the one he scored against GT in RCB&#8217;s last league game. The overall performance of Virat Kohli will be a matter of concern for him as he has to be a part of India&#8217;s international fixtures in the coming months.

<h3>4. Mayank Agarwal</h3>

Mayank Agarwal impressed everyone with his stellar performances in IPL 2021 last year. Giving him the responsibility of captaincy, PBKS has retained him for the amount of INR 12 Cr. But he failed to deliver with his bat the season for his team.
He played 13 matches for Punjab this season, out of these, he got a chance to bat in 12 innings in which he scored only 196 runs with a very nominal average of 16.33 hitting only 1 fifty. This season, Mayank&#8217;s batting position was also changed from opening slot to middle-order.
Change in position might have been a reason for Agarwal&#8217;s flop show in IPL 2022. It can also be said that the extra burden of <a href="https://www.crictracker.com/want-to-see-a-true-leader-look-no-further-sanjay-manjrekar-praises-pbks-skipper-mayank-agarwal-for-sacrificing-opening-slot/">leadership responsibility</a> had let him under pressure to deliver with the bat.

<h3>5. Venkatesh Iyer</h3>

Young Indian all-rounder showed some fine performances last year in IPL 2021 and the domestic circuit as well. <a href="https://www.crictracker.com/3-players-kkr-likely-to-release-ahead-of-ipl-2023/">KKR</a> bought him for an amount of INR 20 Lakhs last year in the mini-auction. But this year he was retained by Kolkata before the mega auction for IPL 2022 at a very good amount of INR 8 Cr.
He got a place in the team as an all-rounder but he failed in every aspect whether it was batting or bowling. He scored only 182 runs with a batting average of 16.55 in 12 innings. Whereas, he also disappointed the team with the ball as he went wicketless in bowling after getting a chance to bowl in 4 innings of the 12 games.
Kolkata may think twice over his name before picking him in the team for the next season of IPL because he has not done something on the grounds of which franchise could justify the amount they spent for him.

<h3>6. MS Dhoni</h3>

Former Indian captain MS Dhoni left everyone in shock when he decided to quit captaincy of <a href="https://www.crictracker.com/definitely-ms-dhoni-confirms-he-will-play-for-csk-in-ipl-2023/">CSK</a> and transfer it to the senior all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja. Under Jadeja&#8217;s leadership, the team failed to deliver losing the first four matches. In the middle of the season, Jadeja decided to leave captaincy and asked Dhoni to take the responsibility back.
Even under MS Dhoni&#8217;s captaincy, the team couldn&#8217;t make it to the playoffs and got eliminated from the league stage of IPL 2022. Apart from captaincy, Dhoni also struggled with the bat as he couldn&#8217;t score big runs for CSK. Appearing in 13 innings of 14 games CSK played, skipper Dhoni managed only 232 runs with an average of 33.14 including a fifty.
Analyzing both his captaincy and batting, Dhoni can be named as the captain of this playing XI. Although, Dhoni has also hinted his fans and cricket experts regarding his availability next year in IPL 2023

<h3>7. Ravindra Jadeja</h3>

Taking charge of CSK&#8217;s captaincy from MS Dhoni, it was not an easy task for Jadeja to carry the whole team along with his individual performance. The team drastically failed in the initial matches of the tournament and so did Jadeja. He had to quit captaincy and Dhoni took the charge again but it was already too late for CSK.
Jadeja managed to score only 116 runs at a miserable batting average of 19.33 in 10 innings he played for CSK this season. He also failed to deliver with the ball managing to scalp only five wickets conceding runs at a bowling average of 49.60.
Jadeja, himself would also be concerned over his performance as he is supposed to play for India in international fixtures which are scheduled in the coming months.

<h3>8. Varun Chakravarthy</h3>
