IPL 2022: GT skipper Hardik Pandya not thinking about his Team India comeback

Hardik Pandya has led Gujarat Titans from the front in IPL 2022 and took the side one emphatic triumph after another. On Saturday (April 23), the all-rounder brought up his third successive half-century of the season as GT recorded their sixth win to advance atop the team standings. Notably, the Ahmedabad-based side is now just a couple of victories away from officially securing a place in the playoffs.

One of the major reasons behind their successful campaign is Hardik Pandya’s fine form. The all-rounder has scored three fifties in six outings alongside contributing significantly in the bowling department, barring the game against KKR. Owing to the same, many fans and experts reckon Hardik’s comeback to the Indian national team is just a matter of time. However, the all-rounder, as of now, is not concerned about the same.

“I don’t think it’s my (India) comeback anyway and secondly I don’t focus on my comeback. I focus on the game which I play. At the moment, I am playing IPL and will focus on IPL, then will see where the future takes. It’s never in my hands now. I focus on the team which I’m playing in. We are doing well and I’m very happy,” said the 28-year-old in a post-match press conference after GT’s eight-run triumph against the Kolkata Knight Riders.

Speaking of the game against KKR, the Titans posted 156/9 in their allotted 20 overs while batting first. Hardik, who scored 67 off 49 balls, was the highest run-getter of the team. As the likes of Mohammed Shami and Rashid Khan were brilliant with the ball, KKR lost the contest by eight runs. Meanwhile, Hardik reckons captaincy has helped him bring his A-game out.

“Captaincy obviously helps. I’m always a cricketer who loves to take responsibility. I have a bit of understanding of the game having batted for so many years. You’re successful because you have an understanding of the game. Having played so many matches, I’m able to use my experience. So far, so good,” said the all-rounder.
