IPL 2022: Joe Root, Ben Stokes, Chris Gayle among notable players to not register for mega auction
IPL 2022 mega auction is set to take place in February.
The 2022 IPL mega auction is all set to get underway in February and developments around the same are unfolding one after the other. As per reports, a total of 1214 cricketers which include 270 capped and 312 uncapped players, have given their names for the auction. However, it becomes important to take a look at some big guns that haven’t entered the auction pool due to varied reasons.
Mitchell Starc, Ben Stokes, Sam Curran, Chris Gayle, Jofra Archer, and Chris Woakes are among the notable absentees from the upcoming auction list as per reports by ESPNcricinfo. Talking around the same developments, Starc was expected to mark his return to the competition after seven long years and he hinted of that too.
“I’ve got two days to get my paperwork in, so that might be something to do today before training. I’ve not put my name down just yet, but I’ve got a couple more days to decide on that. It’s certainly on the table regardless of what the schedule has got coming up. I’m feeling good. It’s (Selection) purely up to the selectors, I’m not looking for a break. It’s the last Test match of an Ashes series at home, it’s the pink ball too so I’d very much like to play,” said Starc earlier.
Ben Stokes hinted of missing IPL 2022 auction citing England’s Test form recovery
On the other hand, star English all-rounder Ben Stokes made it quite clear that he won’t be available for the upcoming auction in order to pay the required attention to England’s Test preparations post Ashes debacle. Curran, who was not retained by his franchise CSK is also expected to miss the huge event due to unknown reasons. Talking of Jofra Archer, he wasn’t available last year as well while battling a series of injuries and Chris Gayle might have side-lined himself due to age concerns.
Among the players who have registered for mega auction, 41 are from associate nations as well and about 49 players have listed their base price at the highest amount of INR 2 crore.
