Lucknow Super Giants skipper KL Rahul smashed a brilliant ton against Mumbai Indians in the 26th game of the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) on Saturday. He opened the innings with Quinton de Kock and batted through the innings scoring an unbeaten 103 off 60 deliveries. His knock propelled LSG to a brilliant score of 199 runs for the loss of four wickets in their 20 overs.

Rahul looked in ominous touch right from the word go on the day scoring runs at will against the hapless MI bowling line-up. Barring Jasprit Bumrah, all other bowlers didn’t have any clue bowling to him as the man smacked nine fours and five sixes. Rahul brought up a sensational ton in his 100th IPL match in the penultimate over of the innings stylishly hitting Tymal Mills for a boundary.

Soon after he reached the three-figure mark, he removed his helmet and soaked in all the applause from the crowd at the Brabourne Stadium in Mumbai. Soon KL Rahul also came up with his trademark celebration with both his hands near his ears and eyes closed. He does this to shut the outside noise and criticism.

He had revealed the reason for his celebration as well last year after scoring a century against England at home in the second ODI. “It’s self-explanatory, to shut out the noise, no disrespect, but there are people out there who will try to pull you down and criticise,” he had said.

Here’s the video of KL Rahul’s celebration:

KL Rahul scored his second century vs MI in IPL

Meanwhile, KL Rahul became only the fourth player in the history of IPL to score two centuries against a particular opposition. Chris Gayle, Virat Kohli and David Warner are the other three batters to score tons against Punjab Kings, Gujarat Lions and Kolkata Knight Riders respectively. Rahul also scored his second century as a captain to become only the second player after Virat Kohli to hit multiple tons while being at the helm. Kohli has scored five centuries as a captain.

Twitter also lauded KL Rahul for his excellent ton:
