India’s batting legend and former captain Sunil Gavaskar has opined his thoughts on the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) skipper KL Rahul, saying that he can be the finisher of his team in the IPL 2022. Rahul is currently opening the innings alongside Quinton De Kock. Even before joining LSG, he was the opener for the Punjab Kings.
Gavaskar feels that Rahul will be the right fit to play the finisher’s role as well for his team as he praised his ability to hit the shots across all parts of ground in the death overs. There have been instances in the previous IPL seasons that Rahul has stayed on the crease till the death overs after opening the innings.
“KL Rahul is such an integral part of any team. He opens the batting and gets to bat 20 overs and sets the pace for his team. I believe he has the ability to be the finisher as well,” said Sunil Gavaskar on Star Sports’ Cricket Live.
Gavaskar feels Rahul has the ability to stay in the game till the end
“He’s not just somebody who can begin the innings and get the team off to a good start. He has all the shots in the book to finish it off as well. So if he gets going till the 15th-16th over, then LSG can post 200-plus on the board,” Gavaskar added.
LSG has won and lost a game each so far. They lost their first outing against their fellow newcomers Gujarat Titans (GT) but balanced it out after defeating Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in a thrilling encounter. Rahul played some big shots in the game against CSK, after being dismissed for a duck in his first game against GT.
He opened the game with De Kock and the two put up a brilliant 99-run opening partnership before Rahul was dismissed by Dwaine Pretorius. LSG will lock horns with Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) at the Dr. DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai on April 4, 2022, at 7:30 PM IST.
