The Chennai Super Kings will be locking horns with the Gujarat Titans in Match 29 of IPL 2022 at the Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium in Pune on April 17. Both teams will be oozing with confidence heading into this contest. After suffering four straight losses, the defending champions CSK registered a morale-boosting 23-run win over the Royal Challengers Bangalore and added the first points to their tally this season.
The bowling had let the title-holders down this season prior to the last fixture, but the Chennai bowlers finally rediscovered their rhythm while defending a total in excess of 200 as they added pressure on Bengaluru’s famed batting line-up which proved to be way too much for them in the end. Having come out on top in the last match, the Yellow Army would be looking to field the same Playing XI in this contest as well. However, they could bring Mukesh Choudhary ahead of Rajvardhan Hangargekar.
Here’s the Predicted Playing XI for Chennai Super Kings against Gujarat Titans:
Openers: Ruturaj Gaikwad and Robin Uthappa
Last season’s Orange Cap winner Ruturaj Gaikwad is yet to make an impact in the ongoing season. The Maharashtra cricketer has so far managed just 35 runs from five matches at an average of seven and a strike rate of 85.37. He would be eager to play an impactful knock when he faces a lethal Gujarat bowling attack.
Robin Uthappa, on the other hand, roared back to form with a magnificent knock of 88 runs from 50 deliveries. He laid a solid foundation for Chennai as they eventually went on to post a match-winning total of 216/4 from their 20 overs. The veteran opener would once again be expected to fire on all cylinders against GT.
Middle Order: Ambati Rayudu, MS Dhoni (wk) and Shivam Dube
All eyes will be on CSK’s middle-order during this vital clash. Veteran batter Ambati Rayudu pulled off a match-winning one-handed stunner to dismiss in-form Dinesh Karthik in the last game, but, CSK would be hoping that the Andhra cricketer regains form on the 22 yards with the bat. Meanwhile, ever since his unbeaten 50 in the curtain-raiser against KKR, MS Dhoni has not been consistent and CSK desperately need his finishing touches going forward.
Shivam Dube has been CSK’s batting backbone with his consistent performances. The middle-order sensation was adjudged the Player of the Match against Bangalore for his match-winning knock of 95 runs from 46 deliveries at a brilliant strike rate of 206. He might have missed his century by a whisker, but Dube would be hoping to make amends in the next match.
All-Rounders: Ravindra Jadeja and Dwayne Bravo
Ravindra Jadeja has only managed 66 runs from five matches so far, with his highest individual score being an unbeaten 26. The CSK skipper would be hoping to take more responsibility with the bat. The southpaw has also registered four scalps to his name and had accounted for a rampaging Glenn Maxwell in the last game.
Dwayne Bravo surpassed Sri Lankan icon Lasith Malinga to become the all-time leading wicket-taker in IPL history but he has not fired with the bat yet and would be eager to cut loose in the next game, especially in the middle and death overs. The Caribbean megastar has been sensational with the ball in hand with seven wickets from five matches.
Bowlers: Maheesh Theekshana, Mukesh Choudhary, Chris Jordan
Maheesh Theekshana was the leading wicket-taker for CSK in the last game against RCB as he registered match-winning figures of 4/33 from his four overs. The emerging bowler would be expected to make the ball do the talking once again when he encounters GT’s rock-solid batting line-up especially skipper Hardik Pandya who is in sublime form.
Mukesh Choudhury has registered three scalps to his name from four outings and would be looking to create an impression in the wickets tally from hereon. Chris Jordan, on the other hand, is a seasoned campaigner and knows a thing or two about breaking some crucial partnerships. He has so far picked up two wickets from three matches.
Predicted Playing XI of CSK:
Ruturaj Gaikwad, Robin Uthappa, Moeen Ali, Ravindra Jadeja (c), MS Dhoni (wk), Ambati Rayudu, Shivam Dube, Maheesh Theekshana, Mukesh Choudhary, Dwayne Bravo, Chris Jordan
