IPL 2022, Match 31 LSG vs RCB, Stats Review: Faf du Plessis’s joint-highest score, KL Rahul’s feat and other stats
du Plessis registered his joint-highest score (96) in the IPL. He got out on the same score against Punjab Kings in the year 2019.
Faf du Plessis played a captain’s innings of 96 runs off just 64 deliveries with 11 fours and 2 sixes as Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) defeated Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) by 18 runs in Match 31 of IPL 2022 at the DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai. Josh Hazlewood also took his best figures of 4/25 in the league and RCB moved to the second position in the table with five victories and ten points to their name.
Talking about how the match went by, KL Rahul won the toss as LSG elected to field first. Both the teams went into the match with the same playing XI from the last game. Anuj Rawat made just four runs while Virat Kohli’s horror run in the tournament continued. The star right-handed batter got out for a first-ball duck as Dushmantha Chameera dismissed the big fish. Du Plessis then led his side from the front, but he missed his first IPL century by just four runs. Glenn Maxwell amassed 23 runs while Shahbaz Ahmed mustered 26. Dinesh Karthik played a cameo (an 8-ball 13 runs), which included a six to take RCB’s total to 181/6 in the 20 overs. Jason Holder was the pick of the bowlers for the Super Giants as he took 2/25 in his four-over spell.
Chasing 182, Hazlewood removed Quinton de Kock for 3 and an out-of-form Manish Pandey for 6. Skipper Rahul scored 30 runs but was, unfortunately, got out nicking the ball down the leg side off Harshal Patel’s bowling. Krunal Pandya looked in great touch as the all-rounder made 42 runs off just 28 balls. Deepak Hooda and Ayush Badoni both amassed 13 runs each with Marcus Stoinis getting dismissed for 24 runs by Hazlewood. With this loss, LSG are at the fourth spot now with eight points. For his captain’s knock, Faf du Plessis won the Player of the Match award.
