IPL 2022, Match 38 PBKS vs CSK, Stats Review: Shikhar Dhawan’s milestone day, Rishi Dhawan’s comeback after 5 seasons, and other stats
Shikhar completed the milestone of 9000 runs in T20 cricket.
Shikhar Dhawan was the standout performer in his 200th Indian Premier League (IPL) match as the southpaw smashed an unbeaten 88 runs off just 59 deliveries with nine fours and two sixes. His score helped the Punjab Kings (PBKS) in posting a huge total of 187/4 in their allotted 20 overs, subsequently winning by 11 runs against Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in Match 38 of IPL 2022 at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. Bowlers Kagiso Rabada and Arshdeep Singh also supported Dhawan well as they recorded figures of 2/23 and 1/23 respectively.
Speaking about how the encounter between ‘The Kings’ panned out, Ravindra Jadeja won the toss and CSK elected to field first. They went into the match with an unchanged side from the last game while PBKS made three changes. Bhanuka Rajapaksa, Rishi Dhawan, and Sandeep Sharma all came in for Nathan Ellis, Shahrukh Khan, and Vaibhav Arora respectively. Skipper Mayank Agarwal, who has never scored a fifty against CSK, got out for just 18 runs. Rajapaksa made full use of his comeback and scored 42 runs off 32 deliveries with two fours and as many maximums. Dwaine Pretorius had an off day with the Protea leaking 50 runs for no wicket in his four-over spell.
Chasing 188 for victory, Robin Uthappa, Mitchell Santner, and Shivam Dube all bagged single-digit scores. Ruturaj Gaikwad amassed 30 runs off 27 balls but it was Ambati Rayudu who sparkled the run chase. The 36-years old slammed 79 runs off 38 balls with seven fours and six towering maximums. But once he got out, it looked too late for MS Dhoni and Ravindra Jadeja to get close to the total.
Rishi Dhawan, who played his first IPL game since the 2016 season, took the prized scalp of Dhoni and it was curtains for the Men in Yellow. With this win, PBKS is now sixth on the table with eight points while CSK remains in the ninth spot with just four points. For his exceptional match-winning knock, Shikhar Dhawan was named the Player of the Match.
