IPL 2022: Match 59: 10 best memes from CSK vs MI match
Chennai Super Kings' playoffs dream comes to an end.
The 59th game of the IPL 2022 saw Chennai Super Kings and Mumbai Indians lock horns at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. While it was a must-win game for CSK in order to keep their playoffs hopes alive, MI looked forward to putting curtains on their campaign by knocking them out as the five-time champions succeeded in doing so as they defeated CSK by five wickets.
CSK faced a major blow in the beginning due to the absence of DRS. The in-form Devon Conway had to walk back on just the second ball of the first over for a golden duck. The ball was clearly missing the stumps, but a power cut at the stadium restricted CSK from taking the review and the umpire’s decision was upheld.
Things fell out of place when Moeen Ali was scalped in the same over by Daniel Sams for a two-ball duck, followed by Jasprit Bumrah scalping Robin Uthappa (1 off 6) for yet another lbw and CSK were three down in just two overs into the play. Very soon, Sams picked up Ruturaj Gaikwad (7 off 6) to dismantle CSK’s hopes of making it big against their arch-rivals as the Yellow Army lost five wickets in the powerplay.
Despite MS Dhoni’s best efforts, wickets fell like a pack of cards one after the other. Dwayne Bravo (12 off 15) stayed in there for a long time as the pair put on a 39-run partnership, but it wasn’t just enough. Dhoni (36* off 33) did not receive much support from the other end and was the last man standing as CSK crumbled on 97 runs.

Coming to the chase, it was an easy win for the Men in Blue. CSK got an early breakthrough in the form of Ishan Kishan (6 off 5), courtesy of Mukesh Choudhary who dismissed him in the first over. The CSK pacer was unstoppable as he went on to pick Sams (1 off 6), and debutant Tristan Stubbs for a two-ball duck. Adding to that, Simarjeet Singh scalped Rohit Sharma (18 off 14) as MI ended a dreadful powerplay at 36/4.
After a disastrous collapse, Hrithik Shokeen (18 off 23) and Tilak Varma (34* off 32) repaired the innings and showcased a decent composure, until the former was dismissed by Moeen Ali. But Tim David’s finishing touches (16* off 7) helped MI take the victory by five wickets, thereby putting a full stop to CSK’s run towards the playoffs.
