IPL 2022, Match 60, RCB vs PBKS, Stats Review: Virat Kohli's feat, Punjab Kings' special milestone and other stats
Virat Kohli became the first player to score 6500 runs in the IPL.
Punjab Kings convincingly defeated Royal Challengers Bangalore by 54 runs in the 60th match of IPL 2022, played at the Brabourne Stadium in Mumbai. The match began with a brisk fifty by Jonny Bairstow, followed by Liam Livingstone who scored 70, to take Punjab Kings to a 200+ total. The batters of Royal Challengers Bangalore got to starts but none of them could make it big as they lost by a huge margin.
Jonny Bairstow took no time to unleash himself, as he hit seven sixes in the Powerplay and reached his fifty in just 21 balls. In the first over after the powerplay, Bhanuka Rajapaksa was dismissed by his countryman Wanindu Hasaranga for one, which is his lowest score in the IPL. Soon, Shahbaz Ahmed removed the dangerous-looking Jonny Bairstow. PBKS then had two quiet overs with just seven runs in total.
However, Liam Livingstone ensured that RCB would not edge ahead, as he scored the second fifty by an Englishman in the same innings. Despite all the carnage, Wanindu Hasaranga finished with outstanding bowling figures of 4-0-15-2 and is now the Purple Cap holder. On the other hand, Josh Hazlewood finished with figures of 4-0-64-0, leaking boundaries against Bairstow and Livingstone.
Chasing a huge target, Virat Kohli got off to a brisk start and for a moment it looked like the vintage Kohli is back. However, his innings couldn’t last long as Kagiso Rabada dismissed the former RCB captain for 20. Two more wickets of Faf du Plessis and Mahipal Lomror fell in the next over bowled by Rishi Dhawan. RCB were boundary-less for the next two overs which made the required rate go up to more than two runs per ball.
The pair of Glenn Maxwell and Rajat Patidar gave RCB a brief period of hope, by scoring 42 runs in the next three overs. Both of them were dismissed in no time, and that sealed the match for PBKS. The second half of RCB’s innings was a mere formality, as they lost by 54 runs. The margin of win will massively help PBKS in the business end of the tournament, as at the start of the match, they had the lowest net-run-rate among all the teams in playoffs contention.
Meanwhile, here are some of the important stats and numbers from Match 60 between RCB and PBKS in the IPL 2022:
