IPL 2022: Rajasthan Royals' fans get party spoiled after PBKS grab Odean Smith in mega auction
Smith landed at the PBKS after an intense battle between franchises.
A popular girl fan of Rajasthan Royals was ready to welcome the West Indies all-rounder Odean Smith into the side unless Punjab Kings stepped in to pick up the 25-year-old. Smith has been really impressive in the few games he has played for West Indies in the limited-overs format and looks like a great prospect for the future. He can hit the ball a long distance coming in the middle order and can bowl 140 plus at ease which has raised a lot of demands for him in the IPL 2022 mega auction.
Smith had created a bidding war among the franchises for him as the likes of Lucknow Super Giants, Rajasthan Royals, and the Sunrisers Hyderabad had wanted him on the side as well. However, the Punjab Kings landed the all-rounder for a whopping INR 6 crores and have set their middle-order really well for IPL 2022. The franchise has also roped in Liam Livingstone who can tonk it around the corner and is an all-rounder option as well.
Here’s the Rajasthan Royals’ post on Twitter
The Twitter handle of Rajasthan Royals has always been one of the active franchises on social media and they posted a video of a fangirl getting the name of Smith on her hands through a Mehandi. It certainly showed how desperate the Royals fans have been looking to land in the West Indies hard hitter and the love for the all-rounder from the Indian fans after his brilliant outings against India recently.
“Ready tha yaar- CC: @PunjabKingsIPL ” the Royals official Twitter handle captioned
Smith scored a fluent 36 in 18 balls in the third ODI against India and hit three huge sixes alongside three fours in his quickfire cameo. He has had a huge reputation from the Caribbean Premier League and has had an ecstatic start to his international career so far. He can be used as a floater in the batting order and can be explosive at the death overs with his big muscles in place.
On day one of the mega auction, the Punjab Kings roped in experienced campaigners like Shikhar Dhawan and Kagiso Rabada from the marquee set and brought in the leggie Rahul Chahar as well.
