IPL 2022: Ranking teams based on their fielders

It is a popular cricket phrase, “A run saved is a run scored”. Fielding has now become an important aspect of modern-day cricket and fitness and athleticism are now necessities to become a successful cricketer. Many players are seen taking acrobatic catches numerous times at the highest level of cricket. The fielding standards are obviously quite high. A good catch or a runout can affect the result of a cricket game. The fielding sensation Jonty Rhodes was the one who introduced the importance of the third aspect of the game. IPL’s level of cricket is not less than the international games. Every IPL team always has one or two solid fielders who tend to be a threat to the opposition. Let it be the boundary catch of Chris Lynn or the supernatural jump of AB de Villers, there have been some extraordinary fielding efforts in IPL. In the shortest format of the game, where matches are often decided by small margins, saving even a single run can prove to be a turning point. On that note, let’s rank the IPL 2022 teams based on their fielders: 10. Punjab Kings Punjab Kings team. (Photo Source: IPL/BCCI) Punjab Kings are having a decent run in the 2022 season. In the first four games of the season, they have managed to get two wins and their net run rate is good too. Punjab Kings as usual tried to assemble a new-looking squad for 2022. They are known for making many changes in their team every year. Mayank Agarwal is doing a decent job as a captain. Punjab have good fielders in their squad like Mayank, Shikhar Dhawan, Shahrukh Khan and Jonny Bairstow. Shikhar is one of the safest fielders at the boundary line you will ever see. Their wicket-keeper Bairstow is an experienced player and a master of the art of keeping the wickets. Their skipper Mayank is brilliant both inside and outside the 30-yard circle. 9. Sunrisers Hyderabad Sunrisers Hyderabad. (Photo Source: IPL/BCCI) The skipper of Sunrisers Hyderabad Kane Williamson is one of the top fielders in world cricket. He just loves to dive around and save crucial runs for his team. Sunrisers have started the 2022 IPL season the way they would have never wanted to. They are struggling with every department of their gameplay. Hopefully, they will come back in the upcoming games. Nicholas Pooran, who keeps wickets for the Hyderabad-based franchise, is a terrific fielder and has been seen taking some blinders even when he doesn’t keep the wickets. The young SRH cricketers, Rahul Tripathi, Abhishek Sharma, and Washington Sundar are no less when it comes to fielding. Aiden Markram is absolutely brilliant athlete as well. 8. Delhi Capitals Delhi Capitals. (Photo Source: IPL/BCCI) The Delhi Capitals are one of the youngest teams in IPL 2022. The young players are the ones who have a pure dedication in their hearts to do anything for their team. The inclusion of David Warner in the franchise is a blessing for them as he is not only is a great batter but a terrific fielder too. Alongside Warner, they have brilliant fielders like Axar Patel and Mandeep Singh. The captain Rishabh Pant is a fabulous wicket-keeper too. Shardul Thakur, Kamlesh Nagarkoti, Lalit Yadav, and Mitchell Marsh are some of the other reliable DC fielders. 7. Rajasthan Royals Rajasthan Royals team. (Photo Source: IPL/BCCI) Rajasthan Royals have been a franchise that has always shown faith in young players. The skipper of the Jaipur-based franchise himself is an example. Rajasthan Royals never fails to entertain cricket lovers all over the world. They have a good unit in all three departments of the game and they have always been one of the best fielding sides in IPL. The English wicketkeeper Jos Butler plays for RR as a regular fielder. He is a brilliant athlete and is very quick. Alongside Butler, they have Trent Boult who is known for taking blinders. Remember his catch of Virat Kohli at deep fine-leg? Devdutt Padikkal and Yashasvi Jaiswal are the young guns who will never let you down. 6. Mumbai Indians Mumbai Indians. (Photo Source: IPL/BCCI) The Big man from Trinidad, Kieron Pollard has given the cricket fans a lot of memories while fielding for Mumbai Indians. Hopefully, we will get to see some more breathtaking catches from Pollard in IPL 2022. Suryakumar Yadav is a great fielder too and works hard on his fitness that is truly reflected when he fields. The skipper Rohit Sharma is brilliant inside the 30-yard circle. He can do wonders when it comes to taking diving catches. The pocket-size dynamo Ishan Kishan is a brilliant keeper too. The Caribbean fielding sensation, Fabian Allen is known for his fielding much more than his batting and bowling. The young MI players Tilak Varma and Dewald Brevis are not less than anyone. 5. Chennai Super Kings Chennai Super Kings. (Photo Source: IPL/BCCI) It is said that “the wrong side of the 30s is the right side of experience”. Chennai Super Kings have proved this statement right many times. Despite having some aged players in the team, CSK is a great fielding side. The Chennai-based franchise is a fantastic mixture of young and old players and the way they gel up is commendable. Who is the best fielder in the world? Most of us have a common answer to this question, Ravindra Jadeja. Jadeja is the best in the business, and is probably the fastest cricketer on earth. The Caribbean superstar, DJ Bravo himself is also a terrific fielder. The young CSK players like Ruturaj Gaikwad and Shivam Dube are brilliant fielders too. 4. Kolkata Knight Riders Kolkata Knight Riders. (Photo Source: IPL/BCCI) The Kolkata Knight Riders have always been a strong side in IPL. They have had some incredible fielders in their team like Brendon McCullum and Jacques Kallis. KKR’s fielding in 2022 also looks brilliant and they are one of the fittest teams in the competition. They have Andre Russell, who is a master in all three departments of cricket. The newest captain of KKR, Shreyas Iyer is a great fielder too. He is always seen standing at the catching positions during games. Nitish Rana and Venkatesh Iyer are not less than any other player and the senior pro Ajinkya Rahane never fails to impress the viewers through his fielding skills. 3. They are playing like a champion franchise after their first loss against GT. The KL Rahul-led LSG is fully-packed with young cricketers and they have a great fielding unit. Quinton de Kock is among the top wicket-keepers in world cricket currently and never misses a chance. KL Rahul is a great fielder, and has been seeing doing good fielding for India as well as in the IPL. Manish Pandey is a gun-fielder. He is quicker than most of the other players. He can cover the ground within seconds. Australia’s Marcus Stoinis is a great athlete as well and stands in important positions while fielding. Further, Ravi Bishnoi taking some great diving catches for Punjab Kings. 2. Gujarat Titans Gujarat Titans. (Photo Source: IPL/BCCI) The Gujarat Titans have started the season full of spark, they have proven to be the most complete team in the 15th season of IPL. They have done well with both bat and ball, but the best thing that they have displayed is their fielding. They have shown some extraordinary fielding efforts which have won the hearts of the fans. The backward running and diving catch by Shubman Gill is already the catch of the season for sure. Gill grabbed a stunner in GT’s first game of the season. The GT skipper Hardik Pandya has always been praised for his fielding skills. The Afghan leggie Rashid Khan is also a quick fielder while David Miller is continuing the legacy of the South African fielding. 1. Royal Challengers Bangalore Royal Challengers Bangalore team. (Photo Source: IPL/BCCI) Royal Challengers Bangalore are probably the best fielding side among all the IPL franchises. They have a few of the world’s best when it comes to fielding. Earlier AB de Villers and Virat Kohli used to lead the RCB fielding unit but after the departure of AB, they have fantastic Faf with them. RCB is a serious fielding unit and they look scary to the oppoenents. The brand new RCB skipper Faf du Plessis is one of the greatest fielders in the history of the game. He has previously shown his heroics at the boundary rope many times. Kohli is the fittest cricketer on the planet and the Aussie all-rounder Glenn Maxwell is a fielding giant too.
