IPL 2022: Rishabh Pant fined INR 12 lakh for DC's slow over-rate against LSG

Delhi Capitals skipper Rishabh Pant has been fined INR 12 lakh for maintaining a slow over-rate during his side’s six-wicket defeat against Lucknow Super Giants on Thursday (April 7). The game went right down to the wire as there were a lot of twists and turns in LSG’s chase of 150 at the Dr. DY Patil Sports Academy, Mumbai. However, they eventually crossed the line with a couple of deliveries to spare.

DC have now suffered their second successive defeat in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 and as if this was not woeful enough, the team captain has been found guilty of maintaining a slow over-rate. He thus joined Mumbai Indians skipper Rohit Sharma and Sunrisers Hyderabad captain Kane Williamson, who have also committed this offence once this season.

“The Delhi Capitals have been fined after they maintained a slow over-rate during their TATA Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 match against Lucknow Super Giants at the DY Patil Stadium, Navi Mumbai on April 7,” the IPL said in a media release.

“As it was the team’s first offence of the season under the IPL’s Code of Conduct relating to minimum over rate offences, Delhi Capitals captain Rishabh Pant was fined Rs 12 lakhs.”

Revamped Delhi Capitals couldn’t bring fruitful result

Meanwhile, DC made some significant changes as the likes of David Warner and Anrich Nortje were available. They were drafted in the XI straightaway but couldn’t live up to the expectation. Warner was dismissed for just four while his opening partner Prithvi Shaw made a quickfire 61. Contributions from skipper Pant and Sarfaraz Khan took DC to 149/3 in their allotted 20 overs.

In reply, LSG got off to a flying start with openers KL Rahul and Quinton de Kock adding 73 runs for the first wicket. The latter also went onto complete a half-century. The baton was then passed onto Krunal Pandya and Ayush Badoni, who took the Super Giants over the line with some lusty blows.
