IPL 2022: Team-wise one player who got the backing from their captain
Several youngsters have grabbed the attention of fans this season, but their success can be partly owed to their skippers.
7) Mumbai Indians – Daniel Sams
Daniel Sams was subject to a lot of criticism after he conceded 35 runs off a single over against Pat Cummins. His costly spell led to Mumbai Indians’ third successive loss, and he found himself warming the bench for the next three games. However, Rohit Sharma and the management backed the experienced left-arm pacer and brought him back into the playing XI against Chennai Super Kings.
Daniel Sams had the perfect response for his trolls, as he picked up four wickets against the reigning champions, although that was not enough to register MI’s first victory. From there on, he has been a regular in the playing XI and has done a pretty decent job. Hence, credit goes to the Mumbai think-tank for handing the Australian another opportunity.
Mumbai Indians are well and truly out of the playoff race, after eight losses from their nine games. However, this does give them an opportunity to build for the next season. Daniel Sams’ performances off-late have been quite impressive, and it remains to be seen if he is a part of MI’s long term plans.
