IPL 2022: Yuzvendra Chahal picks a sensational hattrick against KKR, comes up with a special celebration
Chahal ended with the magical figures of 5/40 in his four overs.
Rajasthan Royals (RR) and Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) were involved in a high-scoring thriller in Match 30 of the Indian Premier League (IPL) on Monday (April 18). A staggering 427 runs were scored in 39.4 overs as the Royals prevailed by just seven runs in an encounter which kept changing sides with every over. Yuzvendra Chahal was the man who turned the game on its head with a sensational hat-trick in the 17th over even as he completed a five-wicket haul as well.
When he came into the attack in the 17th over, the game seemed to be in KKR’s grasp firmly with 40 runs needed only in four overs with six wickets in hand. Their skipper Shreyas Iyer was batting in the 80s while Venkatesh Iyer was also in the middle to support him. But Chahal got the better of the latter off the first delivery. Venkatesh stepped out to smack a well-tossed up delivery out of the park but he was foxed by a googly and ended up getting stumped.
Even after this wicket, KKR were in control with Shreyas in the middle and they just had to play the leg-spinner out. But little did they know that Chahal will come out with a bag of tricks. Off the fourth delivery, he bowled a fuller ball and in an attempt to work it across the line, the KKR captain missed the line of the ball only to be trapped in front of the stumps. Iyer took a review only out of hope and the hawk eye confirmed the inevitable with the ball cannoning into the leg-stump.
Chahal foxes Shivam Mavi and Pat Cummins to complete a hat-trick
Surprisingly, Shivam Mavi was sent ahead of Pat Cummins and Yuzvendra Chahal just tossed up the ball to the batter to make him hit over the top. Mavi did just that and fell for the bait. Riyan Parag settled under the ball and grabbed a good catch. Even then, KKR were in with a chance as Cummins came out to bat with a reputation of being a hitter having done it before against Mumbai Indians earlier in the season.
He just had to play out Chahal and then bank on the rest of the three overs to take KKR home along with Sheldon Jackson. Having foxed the other two batters with his variations, Chahal this time bowled a proper leg-spinning delivery which turned away from the batter. Cummins pushed at it only to edge it to wicket-keeper Sanju Samson who didn’t drop the chance.
Chahal picked a sensational hat-trick and then followed it up with a classic celebration in his own style. His wife Dhanashree was also in the stands and her cricketer husband came up with his famous pose which had become a meme material not long ago.
