With the ban on the CSK, Gujarat Lions grabbed him where he fared decently for a couple of years. He was once again available in the auction but CSK decided not to retain or buy him.</p>
<p>McCullum has been in good form this year in Big Bash scoring 258 runs at an average of 23. Their current opener Shane Watson is going through a lean patch in 2019 and CSK might rue on the loss of McCullum.</p>

<p><a href="https://www.crictracker.com/world-cup-2019-chris-morris-unsure-participation-tournament/" target="_blank" rel="noopener"><strong>Chris Morris</strong> </a>is one of the finest limited overs all-rounders of this generation. He is a dependable bowler in the death and his pyrotechnics with the bat are second to none. CSK signed him for $650,000 ahead of the 2013 IPL season. In a batting heavy line-up, he couldn’t do much with the bat but picked up 14 wickets in CSK’s run to the final.</p>
<p>In 2016, Delhi Daredevils (now Capitals) bought Morris for a whopping $1 million. Since then he has been striking at over 150 every season and picking up wickets regularly. Not just IPL he is a regular member of South Africa’s T20 squad as well. Dwayne Bravo has already retired from international cricket and his dipping form are alarming signs for CSK. Morris is at the height of his game and CSK would now have repentance of not having the South-African.</p>

<h3>5. Ravichandran Ashwin</h3>

<p>For seven years Ravi Ashwin was an indispensable part of CSK. Ashwin’s shot to fame was the wicket of an in-form <a href="https://www.crictracker.com/chris-gayle-was-in-brilliant-touch-says-sandeep-lamichhane/" target="_blank" rel="noopener"><strong>Chris Gayle</strong></a> in the final of IPL 2011. He scalped a total of 20 wickets in that season. Soon he became Dhoni’s go-to bowler as he used the off-spinner in the powerplay and to break partnerships in the middle overs.</p>
<p>Post the team’s suspension Ashwin and Dhoni were in sync for another year playing for Rising Pune Supergiant. It surprised many to see CSK’s third retention player as Ravindra Jadeja ahead of Ashwin. Retention of three Indian players; Dhoni, Raina and Jadeja meant CSK couldn’t use the RTM card for Ashwin. He went under the hammer and Punjab splashed out a sum of 7.6 crores and named him the captain.</p>
<p>Captaincy hasn’t burdened him a lot as he has been picking up wickets consistently. He is a smart cricketer and has added new variations in his armoury. Along with the carrom ball and the top-spinner, he is occasionally bowling leg-spinners, sliders and side-arm deliveries. With the surface in Chennai being slow and damp, Ashwin could have played a substantial role.</p>
