The IPL fever is about to set in. With less than a month to go before the gala inauguration of the 10th edition of the VIVO Indian Premier League (IPL) the stage is set for the cricketers to showcase their enormous talents on the field once again. Interestingly, both experienced and fresh cricketers from across the world wish to make their present felt in the tournament ever since its inception way back in 2008. Since then several cricketers took part in the tournament from the years thereafter. A team that has played brilliantly in the first two seasons is Delhi Daredevils. Team’s performance might have been below average in the last two IPL seasons but they are a still a strong team to reckon with. Here are the names of 5 players who once played for Delhi Daredevils but not anymore. #1) Md. Asif: Pakistan paceman Mohammad Asif. But unfortunately, his international career has always hogged the limelight for wrong reasons. Making his debut for Pakistan way back in 2005, Asif got his career blemished soon due to spot-fixing scandal that rocked world cricket in 2010. Asif has more than 150 international wickets to his credit across formats. Mohammad Asif has represented Delhi Daredevils once in the year 2008, the very year IPL tournament was launched. The wily seamer chipped in 8 IPL wickets in the equal number of matches during his stint with Delhi Daredevils. However, he was dropped from the side once his drug result came out positive in the following season. #2) Ab de Villiers: AB De Villiers. A magnificent cricketer with an ever enchanting smile and top-class batting, Ab De Villiers needs no introduction. Abraham Benjamin de Villiers is a man of many facets he can bat, keep wickets or pull out an impossible catch or run-out whenever the team needed. He is definitely one of the best cricketers in our era. The Proteas skipper got 8074 runs in 106 tests with 21 tons and 39 fifties as well as 9080 ODI runs in 214 matches that he played so far with 24 hundreds and 51 half centuries to his credit. De Villiers averages 50+ in both Test and ODI cricket for South Africa. His batting consists of a lot of unorthodox and peculiar shots which seem utterly surreal sometimes. He represented Delhi Daredevils team for three consecutive years from 2008 to 2010. While playing for Delhi Daredevils, Ab De Villiers got 671 runs in 28 innings at an average of around 29. Since 2011, he is associated with RCB, and performing consistently well over the last few years. #3) Tilakratne Dilshan: Tillakaratne Dilshan. He can bat, bowl and field exceedingly well letting the opponents rile under pressure. Having featured in 330 ODIs and 87 Tests with some 17000 plus runs in international cricket, Dilshan will always be rated as one of the finest cricketers to have ever graced the gentlemen’s game. Tilakratne Dilshan has participated in 6 IPL editions so far. He represented Delhi team for the first three editions from 2008 to 2010 scoring 566 runs at an average of around 22. But since 2011 onwards, he represented RCB team for the opening slot alongside Chris Gayle. Dilshan is missing from IPL team since 2013. #4) Gautam Gambhir: Gautam Gambhir. He represented Delhi Daredevils in the first three editions of the tournament hitting 1097 runs from 39 matches at an average of around 31. But soon he was made the captain of Shahrukh Khan owned KKR team which changed his fortune. His batting and captaincy improved dramatically in the next few years. Gambhir led his team to IPL champion twice in the year 2012 and 2014 respectively. Gambhir has 10,000+ international runs to his credit across formats. #5) Glenn Maxwell: Glenn Maxwell (Photo by Manjunath Kiran/AFP/Getty Images) Australia’s flamboyant all-rounder Maxwell is well-known for his outstanding fielding and attacking batting. He is a regular member of the Kangaroo team at ODIs and T20s. Maxwell scored 1957 runs in 74 ODIs with 15 half centuries and 1 ton along with 44-ODI wickets to his credit. Maxwell is also a member of Kings XI Punjab squad. He represented Delhi Daredevils in his IPL debut tournament getting just 6 runs in 2 matches for his side. However, Maxwell played some important knocks for Punjab in the last few IPL editions making him a valuable player for his side.
