Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) is a prime example of a franchise, which is the pre-season favorites but fails to live up to the expectations more often than not. The team, led by the enigmatic Virat Kohli, has qualified for the final of the T20 tournament two times, but is one of the teams, which is yet to get its hands on the coveted trophy. Most of the time, the team is star-studded, but those stars fail to deliver. On the other hand, the young players, who could have done wonders, go unnoticed. Many such players have gone unnoticed at the franchise. These players have often turned out to star for other teams, thereby making the Bangalore-based franchise regret its decision of not giving them a chance. On this note, let us take a look at 5 players, who people don’t even know have been a part of the RCB:- Steve Smith Steve Smith. Two of the best batsmen in the world, they could have done wonders for Royal Challengers Bangalore. Moreover, the franchise had this opportunity in 2010, when both of them were in the squad. While Virat had already accomplished himself as a big name, Smith was still trying to make a place in the squad. The job of every franchise is to discover the hidden talents, but the Bangalore-based franchise couldn’t discover Smith and made him warm the bench throughout the season, before releasing him the next year. In 2012, he became a part of the Rajasthan Royals and has went on to become the face of the team, as well as the most reliable batsman. In a star-studded batting line-up of RCB, Smith could have provided much-needed stability in the middle order. But many people don’t even know that he was a part of the team sometime in the past, which clearly tells that he went unrecognized there. Eoin Morgan Eoin Morgan. In 2010, he was a part of the RCB lineup, and the team did give him a few games. However, the southpaw could not replicate the faith shown on him and managed only 35 runs in 6 games. The captain of the England team that won the ICC World Cup 2019, Morgan has established himself as one of the most destructive batsmen of the team. A strike rate of 135.7 in T20Is further justifies that he can be an X-factor for any team. He is even being hailed as a ‘Player to watch out for’ in the upcoming auctions. RCB can’t be blamed for not giving him enough chances since it was the problem with every franchise. However, they will always regret that they released him and missed his services. Like many other players, the team failed to discover his potential, and he went underutilized in both of the seasons. A star-studded batting lineup meant that he could play only 2 games for the team, scoring only nine runs. In 2014, he was bought by the Rajasthan Royals, and there came his breakthrough season. The right-hander smashed 330 runs in the season, at a strike-rate of 142.24. Since then, he has become a dependable middle-order batsman for every franchise he has played for, be it Kings XI Punjab or Delhi Daredevils (now Capitals). Most of the people don’t even know that he was once a part of the team. It would be safe to say that his talent went largely unnoticed at the franchise. He could have been a reliable middle-order batsman for the team, had he been given enough chances. Darren Sammy Darren Sammy. Most of the time, a potent all-rounder has been present in their squad, but the team has even failed to recognize him, and West Indian Darren Sammy is the prime example for the same. Before joining the squad in 2015, Sammy had been a part of the SRH and even captained the team for a few games. With RCB, he was dropped only after two failures, and never got a chance again. Agreed that the explosive all-rounder could score only 13 runs in 2 games, but dropping him before giving him a fair chance was unfair. Therefore, his presence went unnoticed that season. RCB reached the Qualifier 2 in a rather good season, but Sammy’s presence could have helped the team go a step further. The right-hander played seven games for the franchise, at various positions in the middle order. His best knock came against Delhi Daredevils when he scored 47 runs off just 25 deliveries. This was the inaugural IPL season, and the only one when the Pakistani players played in the tournament. Pakistani players were banned from the tournament in the following year. Most of the people don’t even remember that the legendary player, who is one of the finest Pakistani batsmen ever, has played for the Bangalore-based franchise.
