Coronavirus pandemic has brought life to a tragic halt. And, the sports industry is dealt with a major blow as all the tournaments and events have either been postponed or cancelled. The conditions are so bad that global event like Olympic was also postponed for one year and now it is going to take place in 2021. Now, there is a strong uncertainty going around events like IPL 2020 and the T20 World Cup.

Cricket fans and fraternity don’t want these two events to get cancelled or postponed and they are coming out with different suggestions like it can be played behind the doors etc. But Glenn Maxwell feels that the IPL can be played without crowds if the situation occurs but not T20 World Cup.

I can’t see it happening in the near future says Maxwell

The governments have announced lockdown in their countries due to the pandemic spreading at a very high rate. And, it means that no one is allowed to come outside their houses until the situation come under control. It indirectly means that sporting events will not be organised for an indefinite period.

Glenn Maxwell, the prolific Aussie all-rounder said that it is difficult to play games in the absence of the crowd. However, according to him, a tournament like IPL 2020 can still be played without spectators. But, it is not the case with the marquee event like the T20 World Cup.

The 31-year-old recited that it is difficult to justify mega-event if people cannot reach the grounds. As per him, he feels that T20 World Cup might get cancelled and everyone should just focus on taking care of each other right now. “… it’s going to be hard for us to have crowds. I think if IPL goes ahead they can probably survive without any crowds, but I can’t see the T20 World Cup surviving without any people there,” Maxwell told ABC Grandstand.

“It’s going to be hard for us to justify having a World Cup when we can’t get people into the grounds. So I can’t see it happening in the near future. We’ve got to take care of everyone’s health and well being.” there Aussie all-rounder added.
