IPL has been lot of fun, worked with MS a lot: Steve Smith
“Personally, playing in the IPL has been a lot of fun for me. I have played good cricket, worked with MS a lot, trying to get the best out," he quoted.
Rising Pune Supergiant is having a dream run in the ongoing edition of the Indian Premier League. When the tournament had started, nobody had given them a sniff at the playoffs. Now, they find themselves in the ultimate game of the season for the all-important glory. Skipper Steve Smith is undoubtedly a very pleased man with the kind of results the team has come up with this season.
The last hurdle for RPS will be the Mumbai Indians. They beat the very same opposition in the Qualifier 1 of the season. Hence, they will surely have the confidence of doing well against them yet again. As per the quotes in The Hindu, Steve Smith remarked that a couple of days break has been good for the team. He also noted that MS Dhoni has been really helpful to him this season.
“It [the break] was good and we all had a good training session here before the final. What we have to appreciate is that he has been around for so long and has always been sharing his views which have been really helpful to the team,” quoted Steve Smith.
On the personal front, Smith noted that he has been thoroughly enjoying playing in the IPL. Also, working with MS Dhoni has been a great experience for him this season. He hopes to finish things off on a high.
“Personally, playing in the IPL has been a lot of fun for me. I have played good cricket, worked with MS a lot, trying to get the best out and hope to have one big day tomorrow [Sunday]. We have had a very successful season and so has Mumbai. I hope to have a good first IPL final personally,” said Steve Smith.
Stephen Fleming pleased with the performance too
RPS coach Stephen Fleming also looked very pleased with the efforts of the team. He cited that the senior players have had a great influence on the younger lot in the team camp. He is confident that the team will do well in the finals of the tournament. Also, he remarked that the role of the coach is usually sorted before the commencement of the tournament. Later on, it is only about seeing whether things are going according to the plan.
“Performances are the key and both have been outstanding. They have been a great influence on the young players in the side. I just hope they come good as we gear up for the big challenge ahead. I am quietly confident,” Fleming quoted.
“Most of the coach’s job is done before the start of the IPL when the auction takes place and the right combinations are looked for. We were lucky enough to get them this edition. I would just tell the boys to enjoy the final,” he added further.
