Ireland Tri-Nation Series 2019, Match 5, Windies vs Bangladesh Preview: Tigers a win away from setting final spot
The Irish will be banking on Windies for a win here to stay alive in the tournament.
Windies registered their record run chase in the previous game against the hosts to get themselves into the finals of this Tri-series. The Irish will be counting on Windies to defeat the Tigers in this game as a positive result, even a single point for Bangladesh will take them to the finals alongside Windies.
Bangladesh looked thoroughly formidable in the only game they played this series. They outplayed the Windies with the bat and ball, despite a brilliant effort from Shai Hope. Mashrafe Mortaza’s top three registered half-centuries on the day and looked very comfortable in the middle, a positive sign ahead of the big tournament.
World Cup is the only thing loitering in everyone’s mind as they play cricket in different formats across the world. For Windies and Bangladesh, it is a great advantage to be playing so many games in European conditions and they will be keen to gather momentum before the big matches start.
Playing Combinations
Windies
Sunil Ambris will keep his place after a blazing knock in the other game with Shane Dowrich probably coming in place of Darren Bravo. Fabian Allen too might not find a place in the XI having bowled just three overs in the last match. Their fast bowling quartet of Cottrell, Roach, Gabriel and Holder were a bit too expensive in the previous game and will be keen to rectify it. Jonathan Carter got some crucial runs to his name, which should see him get a place in the XI.
Probable XI
Shai Hope (wk), Sunil Ambris, Darren Bravo/Shane Dowrich, Roston Chase, Jonathan Carter, Jason Holder (C), Fabian Allen/Raymon Reifer, Ashley Nurse, Kemar Roach, Sheldon Cottrell, Shannon Gabriel
Bangladesh
After their top three got among the runs in the first game, Mortaza will be hoping for some of his other stalwarts like Mahmudullah and Mushfiqur Rahim to get some runs. Taskin Ahmed might replace Abu Jayed in the World Cup squad and could feature in the XI despite some concerns over his fitness. Mehidy Hasan Miraz and Mashrafe Mortaza’s 20 overs with the ball will be crucial in this encounter.
Probable XI
Tamim Iqbal, Soumya Sarkar, Shakib Al Hasan, Mushfiqur Rahim (wk), Mohammad Mithun, Mahmudullah, Sabbir Rahman, Mohammad Saifuddin, Mashrafe Mortaza (C), Mehidy Hasan Miraz, Mustafizur Rahman/Taskin Ahmed
Focus will be on
Jason Holder (Windies)
The skipper finally got a few runs to his name in the previous innings and much to the delight of their fans, he managed to take his side home by remaining unbeaten till the end. Holder has not been having a good time with the ball and is being taken for a lot of runs. Yet, his experience will count big time and is definitely capable of contributing one way or the other to the side.
Shakib Al Hasan (Bangladesh)
Shakib Al Hasan has been one of their biggest figures for a long time and will continue to be till the end of his career, or maybe even beyond that. He looked in good touch with the bat, much to the respite of their fans. With the ball, he gave just 33 runs in his 10 overs and troubled the batsmen more often than not. Another big performance might be on cards from his side.
