Ireland vs India 1st T20I Stats Review: Bhuvneshwar Kumar's massive feat, Harry Tector’s highest score and other stats
Hardik Pandya recorded his first win as Team India captain.
Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Yuzvendra Chahal recorded figures of 1/16 and 1/11 in their respective three-over spell as India restricted Ireland to a total of 108/4 in a rain-curtailed 12-over-per-side match. Deepak Hooda, who came out to open the innings, then smashed an unbeaten 47 off 29 which included six fours and two maximums as the Men in Blue registered a convincing seven-wicket victory over Ireland in the first T20I at The Village in Dublin.
Speaking about how the match panned out, the new skipper Hardik Pandya won the toss and elected to field first in the overcast conditions. The game got delayed and was reduced to 12 overs per side due to the rain. Umran Malik finally made his much-awaited debut after warming the bench in the South Africa series. Bhuvneshwar got his team off to a great start by dismissing Irish captain Andrew Balbirnie for a duck.
Hard-hitter and T20 specialist Paul Stirling also fell cheaply for just four runs off Hardik’s bowling. Avesh Khan then removed Gareth Delany for eight as the hosts found themselves in trouble at 22/3. Harry Tector then took charge and slammed an unbeaten 64 off just 33 with six fours and three sixes. Umran bowled just a solitary over and went for 14 runs. Tector’s innings helped the home side breach the 100-run mark.
Ishan Kishan opened the innings with Hooda and the former struck 26 off 11 which included three fours and two maximums. The left-handed Ishan was dismissed by seam bowler Craig Young who also dismissed Suryakumar Yadav for a golden duck. With that wicket, Young reached the milestone of 50 scalps in the T20Is. Skipper Hardik made 24 as the visitors reached the target convincingly in 9.2 overs. With this win,Team India took a 1-0 lead with the second and final match set to be played on June 28 at the same venue. For his tight bowling spell, Yuzvendra Chahal won the Player of the Match award.
