Irfan and Yusuf Pathan's Cricket Academy to provide free meals to COVID-19 hit people in Delhi
In the past few days, Delhi has emerged as one of the worst Covid-19 hit areas as the infected rate has reached up to 30%
The situation in India is getting worse day by day as the second wave of the ongoing coronavirus pandemic has caused a medical emergency in the country. Daily lakhs of people are testing positive for the novel coronavirus while thousands of people are losing their lives.
Seeing the plight of the country, many cricket players have come forward to do their bit and donate to show their solidarity to the people of India. Pat Cummins was among the first ones to donate as he revealed that he has handed a $50,000 (INR 37.3 lakh) sum to UNICEF Australia to aid their COVID crisis appeal in India.
The noble deed by Cummins inspired many other cricketers including Brett Lee and Sheldon Jackson as they also donated a small amount of money to help India. This was followed by the Indian cricketers including Shikhar Dhawan and Jaydev Unadkat coming forward to help the people amidst the crisis.
The new addition to this list is India’s veteran all-rounder Irfan Pathan. On May 5, Wednesday, the all-rounder declared that his cricket academy, Cricket Academy of Pathans (CAP) is going to provide free meals to the people infected by the novel coronavirus in the South Delhi region.
Irfan Pathan posts on Twitter about his noble deed
In the past few days, Delhi has emerged as one of the worst Covid-19 hit areas as the infected rate has reached up to 30% with many people struggling to find hospital beds, oxygen, and other basic medical essentials. Irfan took to his official Twitter handle to make people aware of the noble deed.
“While the nation is in the midst of the second wave of COVID-19, it becomes our responsibility to come together and assist the people in need. Taking inspiration from the same, Cricket Academy of Pathans (CAP) is going to provide free meals to COVID-19 affected people in South Delhi,” Irfan tweeted.
Irfan is himself a survivor of Covid-19 as the 36-year-old contracted the virus while plying his trade for India Legends during the inaugural edition of the Road Safety World Series in March 2021. Irfan’s brother and former Indian batsman Yusuf Patham was also infected with the deadly virus at the same time.
