Ishan Kishan and Shubman Gill spill beans on each other's superstitions during live IG session
Ishan Kishan on not getting too superstitious ahead of the IPL 2021 which is set to begin in the UAE.
Two promising young stars of the Indian cricket team Ishan Kishan and Shubman Gill have rather made a smooth transition from domestic cricket to international cricket. While the former scored a scintillating half-century in his debut T20I innings against England, the latter showed enough flair and composure scoring 91 in Brisbane to help India come on top of Australia.
Gill has been named in the squad for the ICC World Test Championship final (WTC) against New Zealand and the five-match Test series against England. Kishan in all probability will be the designated wicketkeeper-batter for India’s tour to Sri Lanka starting in the month of July.
Ahead of a grueling schedule, the two young Turks caught up with fans during an Instagram live session as Gill cheekily asked Kishan to share his scoreboard superstition with others.
“What these guys think is that I don’t look at the scoreboard at all while batting. But that’s not the truth. I don’t like at my personal score while batting. If we are chasing in the match I know how many runs are needed off how many balls. These guys in the dressing room think that I don’t keep a track of the scoreboard at all, and wonder how will I manage a run chase. But it’s not like that,” Kishan explained.

The southpaw’s tendency to not look at the scoreboard was there for all to see, as when Kishan reached half-century he didn’t raise the bat until Virat Kohli pointed to the scoreboard and asked him to oblige.
“There is no point asking him (Shubman Gill), he is very superstitious! You’ll see a red handkerchief in his pocket whenever he goes out to bat,” Kishan revealed.
Kishan who managed to score just 73 runs at a disappointing strike rate of 82.95 in five games this season, has a chance to redeem himself in the UAE when the tournament resumes in September and October. The southpaw though said he will avoid all these superstitions when IPL returns.
“Yes, I am superstitious. But I will make sure I won’t do all those superstitious things in Dubai because it just plays with my mind. So I will stop doing those superstitions and all,” Kishan concluded.
