Ishant Sharma expresses his gratitude towards Sachin Tendulkar's praise
Ishant hailed Sachin as the 'God-of-Cricket".
Ishant Sharma, the Delhi-born fast bowler, has shown stupendous form in India’s opening Test against England at Edgbaston in Birmingham. He bowled with fire and venom, but couldn’t pick up more than one wicket, Adil Rashid, in the first innings. However, he ripped apart the English batting lineup in the second innings with stupendous bowling figures of 13-0-51-5.
Ravichandran Ashwin dismissed the top order after which Ishant joined the party. He started the carnage with an unplayable outswinger to Dawid Malan in the second delivery of the 27th over. In the 31st over, the tall and lanky seamer picked up three wickets to land the English innings in the doldrums. Bairstow nicked the leather into the palms of Shikhar Dhawan in the slip cordon.
Ishant- The wrecker in chief
Ben Stokes also couldn’t make an impact and perished after a couple of deliveries. Jos Buttler couldn’t contribute either and fell prey to Ishant in the last delivery of the over. From a position of strength, the Brits found themselves in a rabbit hole courtesy of the masterclass from the 29-year-old speedster. Tom Curran and Stuart Broad built a 41-run stand to bring the home team back into the match.
Meanwhile, India needed to break the partnership and Ishant put his hand up to dismiss Broad with an away-going delivery. Moreover, he picked up a crucial five-wicket-haul. In the meantime, Sachin Tendulkar, the former Indian cricketer, praised the bowler for his stupendous display of bowling and drew parallels of his spell with Ishant’s match-winning spell at the Lord’s Cricket Ground back in 2014.
The Master Blaster took to Twitter and wrote, “Fantastic effort by @ImIshant. Brought back memories from the game at Lord’s in 2014. #ENGvIND”
Ishant was brisk to spot the wishes from the veteran and he reverted with a heartfelt reply while hailing him as the ‘God-of-Cricket”.
The fast-bowler wrote, “Thanks Sachin Paaji… for your kind words!…nothing motivates better when it comes straight from the God-of-Cricket”
