“It is a homecoming for me”- Shikhar Dhawan on his upcoming stint with Delhi Capitals in the IPL
"This is where I grew up."
With 4057 runs in 143 matches to go with 32 half-centuries, Shikhar Dhawan has been one of the most successful players in the Indian Premier League (IPL). He has played for Mumbai Indians, Delhi Daredevils, now Capitals and also the Sunrisers Hyderabad, the franchise he last represented.
However, the Sunrisers traded him before the auction and the experienced campaigner would now play for the Capitals in the IPL 2019. Quite expectantly, the 33-year-old left-handed batsman is excited about the stint and mentioned it as a ‘homecoming’. In the domestic circuit, Dhawan plays for Delhi.
I’m adjusting well to it actually
“Ghar wapasi ho gayi hai ji meri, (It is a homecoming for me). This is where I grew up. So, it’s good to come back. On the cricket front, it’s good that I will be playing half my games at Feroz Shah Kotla Ground and I have played there for so many years that I know the ground and the pitches there,” Dhawan was quoted as saying in The Times of India (TOI).
Going down the memory lane, Dhawan said that he had learned a lot from the likes of AB de Villiers, Gautam Gambhir and Virender Sehwag and Glenn McGrath. “I’m adjusting well to it actually. I’m bringing 11 years of experience. I was a rookie back then. learnt lots of stuff from all the senior players- AB de Villiers, Viru bhai, Gauti bhai, (Glenn) McGrath, Daniel Vettori. I remember all of them,” he added.
The southpaw isn’t a part of the Indian Test team after getting dropped following the England tour. However, he has been a fulcrum of the national team in the shorter formats, opening the batting. He was also amongst the leading run-scorers last year in international cricket. He would next play the ODI and T20I series against Australia that starts on Sunday, February 24.
