It is time that the batsmen consider Kedar Jadhav as a proper bowler: Kapil Dev
He opined that the batsmen should look for singles against him early on.
Team India always wanted one of their top six batters to bowl a bit to have the option of the sixth bowler. Kedar Jadhav has been the answer to the issue clearly the way he bowled in the recently concluded Asia Cup. Coming back from injury, the part-time off-spinner bowled really well and foxed the opposition batsmen whenever the team needed him the most. However, the former India captain Kapil Dev feels that the batters should consider him a proper bowler now and play smartly.
Jadhav’s slingy action has confused many batsmen and he doesn’t give any pace whatsoever which makes it a lot tough for them to score runs off him. He has so far picked 22 wickets at an average of 29.59 and an economy of 4.86 which is brilliant for any batting all-rounder.
One shouldn’t play big shots
Kapil Dev, while speaking to Gulf News, insisted the batsmen to look at him as the proper bowler and take manoeuvre him for singles after which the runs will come easily. He was also of the opinion that one should play a loose delivery along the ground. Mushfiqur Rahim was the one who tried to hit Kedar Jadhav out of the ground when he delivered a rank long hop.
“Batsmen should think well on how to play him. It is always better to play him for singles. One should not play big shots to him. He is a bowler against whom you can take a single off every ball by trying and placing him especially when you have four fielders up there. If he gives you a loose delivery don’t try to lift him but hit him along the ground,” Dev said.
Jadhav injured himself during the Asia Cup final and it seems that he has sustained hamstring injury once again. Though there is no official update on his fitness, he might get ruled out of the action for the next few weeks.
