It never feels like you are standing in front of Virat Kohli, he acts like a childhood friend: Mohammed Shami

Producing great fast bowling talent isn’t something that India is known for. However, that notion seems to be changing as in the recent past, there have been many Indian seamers who have attracted the attention of the who’s who of the cricket fraternity. India is already equipped with pacers like Jasprit Bumrah, Ishant Sharma, Mohammed Shami, and Umesh Yadav.

The emergence of seamers like Mohammed Siraj, Navdeep Saini, Shardul Thakur, and T Natarajan has made the Indian pace attack look more intimidating and lethal. Mohammed Shami was all praises for the fast-bowling talent the Indian team has been producing lately. Meanwhile, the veteran also credited Indian skipper Virat Kohli for backing the bowlers and giving them complete freedom to execute their plans without any fear or worry.

Shami revealed that Virat is a very cooperative captain as he backs the instincts of the bowlers and never puts them under pressure if they go for some runs. The 30-year-old lavished praises on the captain saying that he is humble and just acts like a childhood friend on the cricket field.

“Virat has always supported and given the freedom to bowlers. He always asks us about our plans first. He only gives his inputs once our plan fails. As far as our fast bowling goes, Kohli has never put us under pressure. It never feels like you are standing in front of Virat Kohli. He acts like a childhood friend,” Shami told Cricbuzz.

Further in the interaction, the decorated speedster agreed that there are times when Kohli loses his cool but the bowlers don’t mind the same as it is a part and parcel of the game. Shami added that though Virat is aggressive, he gives complete freedom to the bowlers.

“Sometimes he (Kohli) gets very funny, sometimes he gets aggressive. That we don’t mind. We are all playing for the country. He gives us complete freedom to do execute our plans. No captain will give you so much freedom,” Shami said.

In the end, Shami also spoke about India’s bowling attack saying that the Men in Blue have one of the most balanced and lethal bowling units as both pacers and spinners have the ability to perform anywhere in the world irrespective of the surface and pitch.

“Be it our spinners or pacers, we have quality bowlers. This has created complications for other teams as to what type of wickets to be prepared for the Indian team. If they give us spinning track, our team is already known for spinners but should there be a seaming surface, our pacers will roll them over,” Mohammed Shami concluded.
