A clinical bowling performance from the Gujarat Titans saw them register a 37-run win over the Rajasthan Royals in their IPL 2022 clash at the DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai on April 14. While star New Zealand pacer Lockie Ferguson broke RR’s backbone with his outstanding performances with the ball in hand, uncapped bowler Yash Dayal also had a lion’s share in damaging the opposition batting line-up.
The 24-year-old returned with the figures of 3/40 as he accounted for the likes of Devdutt Padikkal, Rassie van der Dussen, and Yuzvendra Chahal respectively in his four overs. Meanwhile, speaking about his impactful performance, Yash said that even though he was under pressure, he ensured that he did not allow himself to get carried away by it.
I was a bit nervous but I controlled it: Yash Dayal
“It’s a big thing for me for the kind of background I come from. It was a proud moment for me and my family. I was a bit nervous but I controlled it. I liked the whole experience,” Dayal said in a video posted on the IPL website.
“I was very nervous, but still I did not compromise with my bowling. I knew I had to keep my line and length and it worked for me. Hardik backed me to the hilt. He had left it to me to do my bowling… where I wanted to bowl, what field placements I wanted. He gave me all the leeway to try whatever I wanted to with the ball,” he added.
The Gujarat Titans after being reduced to 53/3 in the seventh over ended up posting a stiff total of 192/4 from their 20 overs courtesy of a captain’s knock from Hardik Pandya who scored an unbeaten 87 runs from 52 deliveries. In reply, Rajasthan lost momentum in their chase right from the beginning, barring explosive opener Jos Buttler who single-handedly took care of the innings with a 24-ball 54.
However, once he was castled by Lockie Ferguson, it all went downhill for the Rajasthan Royals from thereon and they were eventually restricted to 155/9.
