It’s good to be back says Indian pacer Zaheer Khan
It’s good to be back says Indian pacer Zaheer Khan: The Delhi Daredevils (DD) v Kings XI Punjab (KXPI) match yesterday grabbed more attention than usual just for the fact that the waiting Indian fans had this chance to watch their favorite bowler the veteran Indian pacer Zaheer Khan Bowl again after almost a year. Zak was out with an injury since the previous season of the IPL and it was yesterday that he made his comeback to competitive cricket. He was in the game right at the start as he got rid of the danger man, KXIP opener Virender Sehwag on the second ball of the innings.
Zaheer said it feels good to come back to and play matches, “It was good to be back. I am glad things have worked out well. Definitely it’s not the best as I call it but I am happy to be able to bowl properly,”
How was it to be running in hard again, making plans to tackle batsmen who are out with clear intent of going hard at the bowlers, “I enjoyed the pressures of a batsman coming at you. I was playing after a year and it was tough. It was good to feel that pressure. These are the things I missed. The pressure of setting the field, having to think about it. I was nervous but I felt good. We executed the plans well,” Zak said.
Did he feel low, or let down when he was almost written off by many cricket analysts and journalists during this phase of injury? “It was their job to write. That’s the way it goes. My career will be over and I will say that it is over.”
“You can’t give him (Sehwag) room. The wicket was on slower side and it worked in my favour.” Zaheer reacted on getting his Indian teammate Viru out early in the innings.
At the same time he sounded really positive and hopeful about the chance his team the DD had of making it to the next stage of the IPL. He signed off saying, “It’s about winning eight games to make it. We now have to win 4 out of the remaining 6 games. That’s how we are looking at it. We will keep our focus and look at the positive things,”
