Jason Roy spits in the direction of the Australia fans who were giving him a sendoff
Roy was quick to show his dissent.
No one needs to give an introduction about the Ashes rivalry. When Australia and England take each other in this epic Test series, emotions are quite high. The players look to put in their best possible efforts to help their team win the historic cup. Also, fans tend to get quite loud and intimidating. The same happened in the case of England’s opener Jason Roy.
England was in a critical situation entering day-5 with them having to save the first Test. For the same, the openers were required to bat for as long as possible and keep the defeat at bay. While Rory Burns and Jason Roy tried their best, they couldn’t really succeed in achieving the task at hand as they lost their wickets quite early. First, it was the left-hander who was dismissed. A beautiful delivery from Pat Cummins was good enough to deceive him and Nathan Lyon took an easy catch.
Then, it was Jason Roy who found his way back to the pavilion. Off-spinner Nathan Lyon bowled some excellent lengths and set him up. However, the 29-year-old did really well to fend at those deliveries and looked good. But, his aggressive instinct got the better of him and Jason Roy had to go back into the hut.
Jason Roy frustrated with the sendoff
It was a regulation off-spinner from Nathan Lyon. Roy, being a white-ball specialist, couldn’t resist for too long and wanted to get a big hoick out. However, he ended up playing an ugly shot which was utterly disappointing. He danced down the track to smack one over deep mid-wicket. However, the ball gripped and turned sharply. As a result, the opener missed it by a mile and disturbed the timber.
The Durban-born scored 28 runs off 58 balls before he got out. As if this shot wasn’t enough to upset him, the Australian fans got too loud and gave him a sendoff as he walked back towards the pavilion. Jason Roy was clearly frustrated with this act and dissent towards the crowd. While walking back, he spat in the direction of the Australian fans which clearly wasn’t a pleasant sight.
