India’s pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah beats skipper Virat Kohli to become the highest-paid Indian player in 2020. Bumrah had returned to international cricket at the start of 2020 with the Sri Lanka tour of India after regaining his full fitness and recovering from an injury. The right-arm seamer featured in almost all the matches of Men in Blue this year and earned a staggering amount of INR 1.38 crore.

Bumrah has featured in nine One-day Internationals, 8 T20 Internationals, and 4 games in the purest format of the game. Virat Kohli, who is placed at the second position in this list, has INR 1.29 crore under his belt in 2020 after participating in 3 Tests, nine ODIs, and 10 T20Is this year.

Virat would have easily topped this list if we would have participated in the ongoing Boxing Day Test against Australia in Melbourne Cricket Ground. However, the captain had boarded the flight back to India after the Adelaide Test against Australia and is all set to miss the rest three games to be with his wife Anushka Sharma during the birth of their first child.

Ravindra Jadeja occupies the third spot

As per the guidelines by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), an Indian player earns INR 15 lakh for every Test match along with INR 6 lakh for every One-day outing while the cricketers earn INR 3 lakh for a T20I game. Notably, this money is separate from the money paid by the BCCI to the players as a part of their annual contract fee.

The third spot in this list is occupied by the spin all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja who represented India in 2 Test games, 9 ODIs, and 4 T20Is this year. Jadeja earned INR 96 lakh but failed to breach the 1 crore-mark as he wasn’t included in the playing XI of the last two T20Is and first Test against Australia due to a hamstring injury and concussion.

One notable omission from the top 5 of this prestigious list is of India’s limited-overs vice-captain Rohit Sharma. Sharma played only 3 ODIs and 4 T20Is in 2020 and earned only INR 30 lakhs from them. Rohit sustained multiple injuries this year but he is expected to make a comeback for the Men in Blue from the third Test game against Australia.
