Jasprit Bumrah is going to be India’s go-to speedster in the Champions Trophy 2017. Bumrah has made a recognition for himself as the death-over specialist very quickly. He has worked hard on his toe-crushing yorkers and can deliver them with pinpoint accuracy now. India has 4 fast bowlers, among which three are expected to play. Only one pacer has got his place nailed in the starting lineup, and that is Bumrah.
For Jasprit, it will be his first visit to England. He respects the responsibility he has on his shoulders and is trying every bit to put up a great show. Before the tournament commences, he spoke to his experienced team-mates Umesh Yadav and Bhuvneshwar Kumar to gain some much-needed knowledge regarding the English tracks. The official Twitter handle of International Cricket Council (ICC) uploaded a video where Bumrah is seeking help from Yadav and Kumar.
He asked them about their experience of bowling in the English soils. “I haven’t played as many matches as Bhuvi (Bhuvaneshwar Kumar). I have played just one or maybe a couple of matches. But the condition here helps the fast bowlers and you’ve done well in the last two years….” Bumrah said while speaking to Kumar.
He couldn’t finish and was cut short by Bhuvi’s light-hearted joke “He will not require any favour from condition. He only has to get his yorkers right.”
But Bumrah was not moving an inch from his desire and wanted Bhuvi to share some experience. “When you come to England, you have the pre-meditated mindset that the ball will swing and I will get help from the track. But don’t expect things that way. Go on to the match, see how the pitch is behaving and plan you strategies according to the condition.”
Pace trio mocks Shami
After getting some useful tips, it was time to have some fun. Jasprit said the pace department has to work a lot for the team and they represent the labour class. Being in that class, they need more rest than the others. Hence he asked the duo “Who sleeps the most amongst the 4 pacers?” All agreed to one answer – Mohammed Shami. “But Jasprit comes second in that list,” said Kumar. The 23-year-old justified his habit by saying that more sleep allows him more recovery.
Umesh was not ready to accept it. He quickly retorted “Shami sleeps a lot. But then also (he takes a lot of time to recover).” Shami returned to ODI cricket after a long time. He was nursing an injury and took a lot of time to recover.
Yadav was trying to make fun of this aspect. But of no use, as Bumrah clarified “He is in constant recovery mode. Whenever he is sleeping, he is recovering.” Thus, the 2-minute long video ended in laughter.
