Former Indian cricketer and veteran batter Robin Uthappa recently opened up on a lot of issues in the Indian team and also shared his opinion on the future captains. With Rohit Sharma nearing the latter stages of his international career, India will have to groom the next captain and Uthappa has voted for premier fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah to take up the leadership for India in Tests.

Bumrah recently led India in the rescheduled fifth Test against England in the absence of Rohit Sharma, and he had a tough time as India lost the Test to draw the five-match series 2-2. However, Bumrah has one of the best brains on the Indian side and is quite brilliant with his tactics and strategies. No wonder, Uthappa wanted the speedster to take up India’s captaincy in the longest format.

“According to me, (Jasprit) Bumrah would be a great captain for Test cricket. For ODI, the choices would be KL Rahul or Rishabh Pant,” Uthappa told in a ShareChat’s Audio Chatroom session – ‘CricChat Powered by Parimatch’.

Also, Uthappa noted about going for KL Rahul or Rishabh Pant as the next ODI captain. Rahul led India in the three-match ODIs in South Africa last year which India lost 0-3 and it hasn’t been the best of starts for him. Rishabh Pant meanwhile, is quite young and he is likely to adapt a lot more in the coming years. Both Pant and Rahul have a big role to play on the Indian side in the future.

I don’t think we have any right to tell Virat Kohli how to play: Robin Uthappa

Uthappa also was quite critical of any opinions against Virat Kohli reminding the fans of his consistency in the past and felt that no one has the right to teach him. He added that Kohli’s own abilities had brought him success and predicted him to go past 100 centuries soon.

“When he (Virat Kohli) was scoring runs when he was hitting hundred after hundred, nobody said he should play like this or that. Now, I don’t think we have any right to tell him how to play. He has scored 70 hundreds thanks to his own abilities and he will score another 30 or 35 also on his own abilities,” he added.
